A GoFundMe campaign set up on behalf of 16-year-old shooting victim Ralph Yarl has not only surpassed its original goal but has raised more than $3 million.

Last week, the Black teen set out to pick up his younger twin brothers from a friend’s house in Kansas City, Missouri but inadvertently went to the wrong address. That’s when 85-year-old homeowner Andrew Lester, who is White, shot him in the head multiple times. No questions asked.
Lester claims he was “scared” when he saw a Black person ringing his doorbell and felt it was in his best interest to shoot first and ask questions later. However, we all know his true motives and why the face of a Black child triggered his brain to shoot to kill.
“Ralph Pual Yarl is a fantastic kid, and I am not just saying this because he is my nephew. He truly is,” his aunt, Faith Spoonmore, said on his GoFundMe page. “At school, he is a member of the Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team. Jazz and competition band. He is a section leader in the marching band; a scholar and one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri. He recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the metropolitan youth orchestra. He is a 2022 Missouri scholar academy alumni. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves them all.”
“Ralph is currently at home with the family. He can ambulate and communicate. A true miracle considering what he survived,” she added in an update. However, he has years of physical and emotional recovery ahead of him — a challenge that will cost more than most of us could imagine.
The original goal of the GoFundMe campaign for Ralph Yarl was set at $2.5 million. However, as of this writing, the drive has raised $3,400,850 — and is growing.
