Late Friday, President Obama made mandatory budget cuts — all without the help of Republicans in congress. So where was the GOP? They got mad, took their marbles and (literally) went home!
Republicans didn’t even pretend to remain in session in the U.S. Senate. By late Friday afternoon, they were all shuffling off to the Washington Airport without a care in the world of what cuts would be implemented. They didn’t get their way and believed not being around was a good strategy. It wasn’t.
The mandated cuts will affect Defense, Homeland Security, Transportation, National Parks and other areas.
The president called the cuts “dumb and arbitrary” and blamed them on the Republicans, adding that it could take a couple of weeks or a couple of months to reach a deal.
“These cuts will hurt our economy, will cost us jobs and to set it right both sides need to be able to compromise,” Mr. Obama said.
