Thousands paid their final respects to former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon Sunday, as his body lay in state outside the nation’s parliament.

Sharon passed away over the weekend after 8 years of being in a coma.
A state memorial ceremony for Sharon is planned for today, to be attended by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and a host of world leaders. The memorial will be followed by a funeral procession.

The truth is I've always felt there was something a little *suspect* about the timing of Sharon's massive stroke.
Unless I'm mistaken, at the time (8 yrs ago) all indications were that Sharon was finally on the verge of truly pursuing Peace with the Palestinians…something that right-wing Israeli hard-liners (Zionists) and right-wing Americans, especially the Bush/Cheney adminstration, and in particular neoCONS, absolutely OPPOSED.
We'll never know what actually caused Sharon's stroke. But this we do know..he was effectively shut down and, IMO, so too was his Peace agenda.
