REMEMBERING DAVY JONES
If you’re old enough to remember the ’70’s, then you’re old enough to remember “The Monkees” and their lead singer Davy Jones.
The young Englishman became an instant heartthrob during his stint with “The Monkees,” gracing magazine covers and breaking teen girls’ hearts in the process. He was even featured (as himself) on the hit television show “The Brady Bunch” as Marsha Brady’s favorite singer and crush, who responded to her request to perform at the school prom. His popularity was off the charts, all due to a television show about a band that was never really meant to be a band at all. But it quickly became one and left its mark on pop culture and television history.
Davy Jones joined “The Monkees” in 1965, along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. Together, they cranked out a bevy of hugely popular songs including 3 number 1 hits, including “Daydream Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer.”
Davy Jones died yesterday at his home in Florida, after suffering a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66-years-old.
