REMEMBERING ERNEST BORGNINE
Actor Ernest Borgnine has died.
Known as the rough and tough character actor of a slew of films, Borgnine was perhaps best known for his television stint on “McHale’s Navy.” But his movies were truly memorable.
One of his best known was as Lee Marvin’s commanding officer in “The Dirty Dozen” in 1967, about hardened prisoners on a World War II commando mission. He also starred in three television-movie sequels.
Other films include “The Wild Bunch” (1969), “Bad Day at Black Rock” (1955), “The Poseidon Adventure” (1972), “Willard” (1971), “Demetrius and the Gladiators” (1954), “Escape From New York” (1981) and the 1984 mini-series “The Last Days of Pompeii.”
Although Borgnine was known for his menacing features, Hollywood remembers him best for his trademark gaptoothed smile. He was 95.
Hmm. Last week, Andy Griffith. Now Ernest Borgnine. May they R.I.P.
