According to sources, Avery had recently undergone open heart surgery and was doing well, but took a turn for the worse on New Year’s eve. His wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside throughout his ordeal, but left the room for a short time, only to find out he had passed away during her brief absence.
Avery starred in dozens of TV shows throughout his professional career, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Closer,” “L.A. Law,” and “The Jeffersons.” This past year, he appeared in three TV movies, including his last film, “Go, Bolivia, Go!” He also reunited with Will Smith and most of the cast from “The Fresh Prince” 2 years ago for a charity event.
