Remembering Lee Thompson Young
Lee Thompson Young, the young actor best known for his leading role in the Disney television series “The Famous Jett Jackson” has died of apparent suicide.
Young, who was currently appearing in the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles,” didn’t show up to work yesterday morning, prompting staffers to contact the landlord of his L.A. apartment to check up on him. When the landlord entered the apartment, he discovered Young’s body with a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Jonathan Baruch, Young’s longtime manager issued the following statement yesterday:
“It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning. Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed. We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Young was a rising star in Hollywood. After making it big as a Disney star, he went on to play running back Chris Comer in the 2004 movie “Friday Night Lights.” He also had a starring role in the short lived ABC series “Flash Forward,” in which his character also committed suicide.
Lee Thompson Young was 29.
I was shocked to read this news yesterday….
Honestly, I do not understand stories like this..smh…unless there was a long history of major depression, particularly with suicidal ideations. Or even previous attempts kept hidden from the public.
Whatever the reason for this young, successful Black man, feeling that the only answer for his life was to END his life…it's a real tragedy.
