REMEMBERING MIKE WALLACE
May 9, 1918 ~ April 7, 2012
Legendary CBS Newsman Mike Wallace, the “60 Minutes” co-host whose pit-bull reporter style made his name synonymous with the tough interview, died Saturday night. He was surrounded by family members when he passed away peacefully at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Conn., where he spent the past few years battling an illness.
Despite his long illness, the CBS family was shocked of his passing and offered words of condolence.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we mark the passing of Mike Wallace. His extraordinary contribution as a broadcaster is immeasurable and he has been a force within the television industry throughout its existence. His loss will be felt by all of us at CBS,” said Leslie Moonves, president and CEO, CBS Corporation.
“All of us at CBS News and particularly at ’60 Minutes’ owe so much to Mike. Without him and his iconic style, there probably wouldn’t be a ’60 Minutes,’ said Jeff Fager, chairman of CBS News and executive producer of “60 Minutes.”
A special “60 Minutes” program dedicated to the beloved journalist will be broadcast next Sunday, April 15th. Mike Wallace was 93.
The man was indeed a "Legend" and THE example of what has always put "60 Minutes" in a league all its own. We're talking thorough investigative jounalism combined with hard-hitting, "take NO prisoners," but VERY fair, interviews. May he Rest in Peace.
