Republican Party Civil War!

Sound the alarm! All hell has broken loose!! The Republican Party is involved in a bloody civil war between the establishment and the Trump-wingnuts, that could likely end up burning the entire party down in order to save it from itself!

Republican Party Civil War

Top News Today
“You’ve made your bed, now lie in it,” is an old saying that is all too timely for the once Grand Ol’ Party. The Republicans underestimated the appeal of Donald Trump, as well as the sheer number of racist lunatics lurking within the party who were all too eager to follow him. Now, the inmates are about to control the asylum and the Republican Party is grasping for a solution.

In an unbelievably unprecedented move, high-ranking Republicans have taken to doing everything within their power to stop the frontrunner of the GOP presidential contest from seizing the Republican nomination. It’s a scorched earth/suicide mission that could kill the Party of Reagan as we know it.

Republican Party civil warEarlier last week, a group of moderate and neoconservative Republican Party stalwarts wrote an open letter, criticizing Donald Trump’s views on trade, immigration, Muslims, torture and his admiration of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Among the signatories are Robert Zoellick, the former president of the World Bank, who also served as deputy secretary of state and as United States Trade Representative; Michael Chertoff, the former secretary of homeland security; Eric S. Edelman, a top aide to former Vice-President Dick Cheney and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates; Dov S. Zakheim, a senior Pentagon official; David R. Shedd, a former C.I.A. officer who ended his intelligence career as the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency; and Robert Blackwill, a former ambassador to India, who also held a key post in George W. Bush’s National Security Council.

In the letter, the signatories recognized “the conditions in American politics” that have contributed to Trump’s success, but were extremely wary of his dangerous foreign policy agenda.

“His advocacy for aggressively waging trade wars is a recipe for economic disaster in a globally connected world,” the letter said. “His embrace of the expansive use of torture is inexcusable.” It also referred to his “hateful, anti-Muslim rhetoric,” which the letter said will alienate “partners in the Islamic world making significant contributions to the effort,” while endangering “the safety and constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of American Muslims.”

The letter continued: “His equation of business acumen with foreign policy experience is false. Not all lethal conflicts can be resolved as a real estate deal might, and there is no recourse to bankruptcy court in international affairs.”

Then on Thursday, the unthinkable happened. Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, opened a can of “whoop-ass” on Donald Trump and urged conservative voters not to let this man become the 2016 nominee and de facto leader of the Republican Party.

Republican Party TRUMP ROMNEY“Here’s what I know: Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” Romney said. “He’s playing members of the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House, and all we get is a lousy hat.”

Romney was just warming up.

“Mr. Trump is directing our anger for less-than-noble purposes. He creates scapegoats in Muslims and Mexican immigrants. He calls for the use of torture. He calls for the killing of innocent children and family members of terrorists. He cheers assaults on protestors.”

He added: “He’s not of the temperament of the kind of stable, thoughtful person we need as leader. His imagination must not be married to real power.”

Romney then reminded Republicans that the Democrats would eat Trump alive in November, just by broadcasting over and over his refusal to disavow the support of white supremacist David Duke and the KKK.

“The video of the infamous Tapper-Trump exchange on the Ku Klux Klan will play 100,000 times on cable and who knows how many billion times on social media.”

Then in a “I dare you” to Trump to respond as an adult running to become leader of the free world, instead of as a 3rd grade playground bully, Romney said “Watch, by the way, how he responds to our speech today. Will he talk about our policy differences, or will he respond with every low-road insult?”

The concise and categorical takedown was historic.

Republican Party TRUMPThe rise of Donald Trump comes from him playing to the lowest common denominator within the Republican Party. All the crazies, lunatics, racists and misogynists that the Republicans have been adding to their membership roster over the years have finally and collectively reared their ugly heads.  Yet, the party has no one to blame but themselves. For years, Republicans have been paving a road for racists — they’re simply traveling the path the GOP conveniently laid out for them.

Will the efforts of the establishment be enough to halt Donald Trump from coming to within a whisper of being in the White House? If more Republican Party heavyweights were to stage a regular assault on Trump in the manner that Romney did, they just might be able to prevent him from securing enough delegates to win the nomination — which would create a fractured convention.  Then the real fun would begin!

Mr. BD

Thank you DJ. I was looking forward to you talking about this today. The Repub party is a time bomb waiting to explode. Too many cooks in the kitchen and nobody really running things. I didn't know about all the other Repubs who went after Trump earlier but I did see Mitt Romney do it. He ripped him a new a-hole. Except it looks like Mitt just wants a hung convention so they can turn to him to become the nominee. So I'm just going to grab a bag of popcorn and sit back and watch the show. You can't make this stuff up. Lol

[….] That about sums it up DJ. Trump's playbook is classic Repub playbook going back to 1964. The only difference is – Trump uses a GIANT MEGAPHONE to get his message across to his supporters while the entire World sits and watches in Horror the entire spectacle play out in real time and in living color. The neoCONS are (mostly) nutjobs and chickenhawks who dodged the Vietnam War via multiple deferments.… Read more »

I want to correct my last sentence.

Except for John Kasich who (by comparison to his political brethren) seems absolutely stellar, the entire Repub cabal are clowns. Cynical. Ignorant and Dangerous clowns….but Clowns nonetheless.
