A Republican Rumble is brewing among political circles and predicting that an absolute disaster could be on the horizon for the Grand Ol’ Party.
Politics :
Traditionally, midterm elections are catastrophic for the party and president inside The White House. That very thought has left Republicans licking their chops for months at the possibility of taking control of the US House of Representatives AND Senate in November — and putting their conservative stamp on America for decades to come. However, that was then and this is now.
To put it bluntly, the latest Republican Rumble is that the GOP has a “Trump Problem.” Donald Trump has such a stranglehold on the Republican Party and has driven it so far into the ground that the GOP is now preparing for a historic loss in the 2022 midterms that it never saw coming.
Being the vindictive charlatan that he is, Donald Trump has used his clout within the GOP to get even and settle scores. That explains why Trump has gone from state to state and hand-picked his brand of MAGA candidates to run in House and Senate races (often times against a powerful Republican incumbent who has gotten on Trump’s bad side). Now, Trump’s meddling has left the GOP with awful contenders who appeal to a certain segment of the party — but haven’t a chance in hell of winning the general election in November.
Speaking at an event in Kentucky, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell sounded the Republican Rumble alarm last Thursday by suggesting that many of his party’s nominees are simply too weak to win.
“Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” McConnell said, likely referencing Republicans Herschel Walker in Georgia and Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania.
However, Republican Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland didn’t mince his words when speaking about the candidate GOP voters have chosen as the best man to replace him.
“He’s not, in my opinion, mentally stable,” Hogan said of Dan Cox. He’s a “QAnon whack job.”
OUCH!
So, what’s really going on here?
While President Biden and the Democrats have shown stability by securing one legislative win after another in recent months, the GOP has shown itself to be the party of indictments, subpoenas, stolen documents, and racial divisions that is anti-woman (the end of Roe v. Wade) and loaded with whacko and nutjob Trump sycophants.
“When I joined the Trump campaign in 2016, I joined the campaign because I bought into the policies that Donald Trump was promoting — and that was to so-called Make America Great Again, put America first, and be the party of law and order. What have we seen since 2016 is the Republican Party has become anything but that,” said former Trump administration official Gavin Smith who now likens the GOP to just another failed Trump property.
“In stark contrast to the Democrats, who continue to get legislative and policy wins, the only thing stacking up for the Republican Party are indictments, subpoenas, and investigations,” he added. “And that’s a really important thing to note as midterm elections are coming up.”
Conservative commentator Glenn Beck agreed and expressed his fears for the future of the party.
“I have never been more frightened for my country than I am right now,” Beck said. “We have 350 million people and some of them are bat-crap-crazy 24 hours a day, no matter who is the president. Somebody’s going to do something stupid,” Beck added while suggesting that if something crazy happens within the country, his party and its people will get blamed for it.
“All we can do is the best we can right now, and the best thing that you can do is, as the crowd gets louder, do not scream for more blood. As the crowd gets louder, we must become more quiet and humble — but in the way of Jesus,” Beck cautioned his fellow Republicans.
“Don’t give the crazies what they want,” he urged.
Yes, as the calendar draws nearer to the November midterms, the Republican Rumble is getting louder and louder in fear of what the fall might bring.
Donald Trump, the face of the party, appears headed for an indictment. Liz Cheney has been kicked out of Washington by her own party. The Republican governor of Maryland is calling his own colleague a nutjob. Herschel Walker is traipsing through Georgia spewing MAGA/QAnon nonsense. Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania has simply stopped campaigning. And, unqualified Donald Trump candidates are lining up with his blessing to take over Congress and legislate American lives.
If that’s not enough, voters have not forgotten about the GOP’s dismantling of Roe v. Wade or Steve Bannon’s suggestion that once Republicans win, they’ll effectively tear up the US Constitution and do things their own way.
It’s hard to believe that only a few months ago, everyone expected Republicans to take the House and possibly the Senate. Now, even Republicans are beginning to doubt their own chances and the viability of their own future.
So, thanks, Donald Trump. You’re doing to the Republican Party exactly what you did to your Atlantic City Casinos and the short-lived Trump Airlines.
Good job!
