Republicans Shift Fight To Debt Ceiling
Current Events
Let’s face it, Tea Party poster boy and current Texas Sen. Ted Cruz led his party into a virtual mine field — then abandoned them. He invented a hostage crisis, stirred up an unwinnable battle, then slipped quietly into the shadows when the going got tough. With the public solidly blaming the GOP for the asinine government shutdown, a large contingency of Republicans on Capitol Hill are privately berating Cruz for leading the party into its current slaughterhouse, while looking for a face saving move out of this mess. Or in other words, it’s a full scale GOP civil war.
The deadline to raise the debt ceiling is less than a week away. However, the debt ceiling is an even bigger problem than the government shutdown. Without an increase in the ceiling, there will be no Social Security checks, no Medicare, higher interest rates and more. Having just come out of an awful recession, we could be heading back to economic meltdown. Yet the Ted Cruz-led wing of the GOP has now shifted the focus of it’s fight with the president to one more failed issue.
Current Events
They can’t defund Obamacare. Their poll numbers are tanking. They feel the tides turning against them for the 2014 mid term elections and even the 2016 presidential election. They’re panicking. So, they’re gasping for air and pulling at straws for another week of bad press with yet another likely unhappy ending.
GOP House Speaker John Boehner has been hog-tied to shift the conversation from Obamacare to next week’s debt ceiling deadline. By attaching a package of spending cuts to raising the debt ceiling, he is trying to wrangle and control frayed factions of his own party, while still trying to remain relevant as Speaker.

But President Obama has made it crystal clear. For the bazillionth time he has told Boehner and his band of right wing government hostage takers that they can’t use operation of the U.S. government as leverage to get their way. There will be no more playing with the lives of the American people. They tried to kill the health reform bill, so there will be no negotiations until they fund the government and raise the debt ceiling without anything attached. Period!
Will the Republicans come to their senses before the U.S. government defaults on its bills next week for the first time in history, or are we all going to hell in a hand-basket, with Ted Cruz and his Tea Party cohorts in the driver’s seat?
as Republicans shift their fight from Obamacare to next week’s deadline for raising the debt ceiling.
The republicans are fools and I am glad that their plan has back fired. I wonder if they ever gave consideration the negative effect it was going to have on other republicans. They stupidly thought they were just effecting democrats but it is effecting their party members just as greatly. I wonder how this is going to play out in the poles next election? I don't think it is going to be too good for them.
