Last week, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his gun control advocacy group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, each received a letter laced with the toxin Ricin. On the same day, President Obama was also sent a threatening letter containing Ricin. Coincidence? Not on your life!
The FBI is investigating both incidents and is already questioning a person of interest. The letters are clearly coming from a person or a group who is angry about Mr. Obama’s and Mr. Bloomberg’s stance on gun control, and is meant to intimidate and fight against any efforts by lawmakers to reign in guns in America.
Text of the letters to President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg read:
“You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. Anyone wants to come to my house will get shot in the face. The right to bear arms is my constitutional God given right and I will exercise that right till the day I die. What’s in this letter is nothing compared to what I’ve got planned for you.”
Billionaire Bloomberg has vowed to use his enormous fortune to counter the efforts of the nation’s largest gun lobby, the National Rifle Association and to elect pro-gun control candidates in the 2014 midterms. Making it clear that the letters would not deter his efforts to push for new gun controls, Bloomberg said: “The letter, obviously, referred to our anti-gun efforts, but there’s 12,000 people [who] are going to get killed this year with guns, and 19,000 that are going to commit suicide with guns, and we’re not going to walk away from those efforts.”
