Although the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin tonight, producers for RNC 2020 are still scrambling at this late hour to figure out a full week’s worth of programming for their big event.
Politics
After watching nearly every second of last week’s Democratic National Convention, the self-centered Donald Trump is hell-bent on making RNC 2020 bigger and better than the Democratic gathering. However, he’s run into myriad problems in a last-ditch effort to outshine Biden-Harris.
.
Make no mistake, Donald Trump needs a crowd in order to feel effective. Originally, he intended to pack the Spectrum Center in Charlotte with MAGA followers — until Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina shot down that idea due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Trump then briefly moved RNC 2020 to Jacksonville, FL where Gov. Ron DeSantis was prepared to allow him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted — until Florida became a coronavirus hotspot and a multitude of legislators and delegates refused to put their lives at risk just to appease Donald Trump.
Now, Trump has been forced to accept a virtual convention without thousands of adoring fans present to feed his hungry ego. He also has to produce a television event that doesn’t pale in comparison to the successful Democratic convention which ended only days before his own.
So, how can Donald Trump stage an RNC 2020 show that bests the Democrats? He can’t.
.
Trump has never held elected office. So, he has no video footage to show him authoring important legislation or fighting for a social cause that helped advance America.
Trump has no friends (other than his immediate family). So, there will be no testimonials from childhood or young adulthood to humanize him.
Trump is a divider and not an uniter. So, there can be no speeches of how Trump helped someone when they were down or went out of his way personally to make someone’s life better.
Although former senior advisor Steve Bannon was scheduled to speak, he has since been arrested for bilking millions of dollars out of Republicans to fund a fake border wall project.
“Typically, convention broadcasts require weeks of highly technical preparation. By the weekend, producers at the major TV networks had only a foggy idea of what to expect…” – The New York Times
Additionally, other Republicans publicly applaud Trump because they fear him and not because they believe in him or respect him. So, any remarks from them regarding the greatness of Donald Trump will likely be forced and not at all genuine.
So, how will Donald Trump fill 8+ hours of television over 4 nights to string together RNC 2020? And, who will be the keynote speakers who can outdo the magic of Michelle Obama or put a dent in the impassioned words of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden?
Don’t be alarmed, but as of this writing, the RNC 2020 schedule is still in the planning stages. So far, the convention will include daily remarks from Donald Trump (to help fill time and stoke his ego), a speech from Mike Pence, and words from Melania Trump and several of the Trump kids.
.
The convention will also feature former Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann, Andrew Pollack, the father of Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack, the MY PILLOW guy Mike Lindell, as well as Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the St. Louis homeowners who pointed guns at Black Lives Matter protesters earlier this summer.
WOW! What a line-up.
Donald Trump has also insisted that RNC 2020 be broadcast exclusively live, with no recorded speeches whatsoever — all but inviting a host of bloopers and blunders that can never be edited prior to public consumption. Several speeches are slated to take place on the South Lawn of The White House and in a government arena nearby. Trump has also insisted that he MUST have a crowd of some sort, so his events will always have between 30-100 people in attendance — without masks or social distancing, of course.
As for any potential musical guests during the week, that still remains a mystery. Aside from Kid Rock and Ted Nugent, everyone else in the music industry recognizes that an appearance for/with Trump is the kiss of death.
Oh, and the Republican National Committee has announced it will not create a new platform for 2020. Instead, it will keep the old platform from 2016 and stick with it until 2024. Or, in other words, Donald Trump has NO vision for a 2nd term, so the GOP will simply go with whatever he promised last time around and hope it sticks.
So, prepare yourselves for a week of uncertainty inside RNC 2020. You’ll hear rambling remarks from Trump himself every day, some words from Melania and the Trump kids, as well as a guest appearance from the MY PILLOW guy and a couple whose claim to fame is threatening to shoot Black protesters in St. Louis.
WOW! What a line-up.
Trump will no doubt play to his base..and only his base because that IS now the majority of the Repub electorate.
I expect the Repub convention to be a Trump-overkill spectacle and I probably won’t watch any of it.
But DJ I will look forward to your daily summary of each nights’ event.
