ROMNEY SWEEPS!
Surprise! Mitt Romney won all 5 GOP primaries yesterday. His sweeping victories in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island have virtually assured that he will be the Republican nominee for president.
“After 43 primaries and caucuses, many long days and not a few long nights, I can say with confidence — and gratitude — that you have given me a great honor and solemn responsibility,” Romney told a cheering crowd at a Manchester, RI hotel. “And together, we will win on Nov. 6th.”
Romney’s quest for the presidency has been no easy feat — and he’s still in the primary stage. In fact, Romney’s ability to lay credible claim on the nomination has taken longer than any other GOP presidential candidate since 1976, when the contest between President Gerald R. Ford and challenger Ronald Reagan went all the way to the Republican National Convention.
Although Romney claimed nearly all of the 231 delegates up for grabs on Tuesday, he is still short of the 1,144 delegates required for the nomination. But the good news is, Republican voters are already starting to unite behind him. A Gallup poll shows 88% of Republicans now back Romney, compared to the 91% of Democrats who support President Obama.
But the bad news for Romney is, President Obama is ahead of him in most all the recent polls, 49% to 42%.
I'm already on record saying that I believe the President will be re-elected. I still feel that way.But I've also expressed that the President MUST NOT take anything for granted. Pay the polls NO mind. He had better work his butt off to get *it* done.
