Sally Jewell Named Interior Secretary
Sally Jewell is slated to be the next Interior Secretary.
Yesterday, President Obama introduced Jewell as his choice to replace outgoing secretary Ken Salazar, who announced his resignation last month.
Jewell is president and CEO of the Kent, WA based Recreational Equipment Inc., a $2 billion-a-year company that sells clothing and gear for the outdoors. She is also known for introducing Mr. Obama at a 2011 White House event for “America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.”
If confirmed, Jewell will head the U.S. department that’s responsible for managing the nation’s public lands. Her selection should also quiet any criticism of Mr. Obama’s lack of women in his 2nd term cabinet.
