The law was the first step. Now, it will take a great deal of time to change people's hearts and minds. I'm just glad to see we're moving forward and on our way.

You can't legislate a heart. With that being said, as all the fanfare subsides and the day-to-day routine of life continues may all those who wish to marry take a moment and set for a while and ponder the truth and responsibilities of marriage.

Tyrob, I am in total agreement with you: "We do have to keep in mind that just because the law changes that does not mean people's hearts do. You can't legislate a heart."

It's about respecting the beliefs of those who DON'T engage in Hateful speech and ugly actions against gays. It's important to recognize that for many, if not most, of those Non-hateful Americans, their anti-gay feelings are rooted in THEIR faith and even possibly Fear.

It takes time and effort to Change hearts and minds.

And one of the biggest statements a government can make regarding such a worldwide ancient taboo. We do have to keep in mind that just because the law changes that does not mean people's hearts do. You can't legislate a heart. With that being said, as all the fanfare subsides and the day-to-day routine of life continues may all those who wish to marry take a moment and set for a while and ponder the truth and responsibilities of marriage.

Personally, I am so fed up with their Hateful words and Hateful ways.

For decades, their leaders have spewed the most extreme nonsense, as if they are completely Unaware that a sizable portion of the American population, to say nothing of the majority of people around the World, do NOT subscribe to the Christian religion!?!…and certainly NOT the ultra radical Christian theology embraced by right-wingers.

I'm glad DJ brought up Mike Huckabee. In March of this year, while in Israel, Huckabee stated "… sometimes my heart’s broken because, in our own country, a lot of pastors will stand in the pulpit but they won’t stand in the gap. We wonder why our culture has turned godless. We wonder why people don’t grow up understanding the fundamentals of natural law, the moral basis of our Judeo-Christian founding as a nation. Might it be that the problem is not the history classes in our high schools but the pulpits of America who have not taken what they even believe and applied it to the pulpit and to the people?”

Huck then went on to threaten to "call down fire from Heaven if I have to." As one writer put it: "This, from a person that a large swath of the media represent as a credible candidate for President of the United States."

Do many, if not most, Americans, self-identify as Christian? Yes. But the United State was NOT founded on ANY religion. Nor is the Bible "the cornerstone" of Our laws.

Word to Right-wing Christians:

“The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” (John Adams – Treaty of Tripoli, 1797)

“Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the common law.” (Thomas Jefferson- Letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, Feb. 10, 1814)

“The civil government…functions with complete success…by the total separation of the Church from the State.” (James Madison, 1819)

“If I could conceive that the general government might ever be so administered as to render the liberty of conscience insecure, I beg you will be persuaded, that no one would be more zealous than me to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution.” (George Washington – Letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia, May 1789)

H/T: Salon Reader

As I have expressed before, to spew the non-sense right-wing Christians spew they have to be either dim-witted, and/or delusional and/or disingenuous.

Whatever the case may be, I consider them to be among the most dangerous domestic threats to Our counry and democracy. .
