SCARY NEW SMOKING LABELS
Are you a smoker who just can’t seem to quit? Well the FDA believes it has a solution that will promptly get you to kick the habit.
The Food and Drug Administration is planning 9 new warning labels on cigarette packs that will feature graphic images depicting the dangers of smoking. All packs from all tobacco companies will be required to have them by 2012.
The images will take up one-half of the cigarette pack, and will include images of rotting teeth, diseased lungs, the corpse of a smoker and a man with a tracheotomy smoking. The labels will include phrases like “Smoking can kill you” and “Cigarettes cause cancer.”
The FDA acknowledged that the small warning label currently on cigarettes has been ineffective. But the new graphic image labels are expected to make smoker’s think twice about lighting up.
