Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Quits Arizona Senate Race

Spread The Love

One-time Democrat turned Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has announced that she will not run as a candidate in 2024 to represent Arizona in the US Senate.

Politics :
Kyrsten Sinema, the first-term senator who left the Democratic Party in 2022 to become an independent, would have faced an uphill battle against Rep. Ruben Gallego, who is all but assured to be the Democratic nominee and Kari Lake, the Trump/MAGA Republican who lost the Arizona governor’s race in 2022 (but, like Trump, claimed she won) and is leading to become the GOP nominee.

“Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” Sinema said Tuesday in a video announcing that she has decided to quit.

When she won her Senate seat, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema helped Democrats obtain majority control over the US Senate. However, she and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia were often outcasts within their own party after regularly refusing to vote and govern in support of the president and the party platform. Both senators all but fell out of favor with the Democrats, prompting Sinema to switch her affiliation to Independent and Manchin to attempt a run for governor of West Virginia.

Sinema continued to caucus with the Democrats but quickly learned that she had no future on the national political stage as an Independent. Ironically, Sen. Manchin also learned that his brand of politics was not welcomed and that he would not only lose his bid to become governor (if he decided to run) but would also fail to be re-elected to his existing seat in the Senate.

Still, after winning a close 2018 contest over Republican Martha McSally, Kyrsten Sinema made history by becoming Arizona’s first elected female senator and the first Democrat to represent Arizona in the US Senate in more than 30 years.

Too bad Sen. Sinema never made many friends inside her party or in Washington and that her short and contentious political career is all but over now.

I don’t really know much about Sinema. But from what I’ve read and heard reported in the past, she started out pretty good. However, at some point in time I guess she decided that p*ssing voters off on all sides was her way of proving she’s really a “True Independent.”

When in actuality she simply became a little too high on her own power and position.

And now she doesn’t have either.

Btw I think the same thing is true of Joe Manchin. At some point he got too high on his own position and power. But in his case, in particular, the Dems put up with his obstructionist crap waaay too long!

Then he still tried to run game by playing footsie with the “No Labels” gang (just for a second) as he pretended to be contemplating a run for President as an Independent. The Dems finally ignored his silly azz, and to the news media’s dismay, Manchin shut down that foolish talk pretty quick.

Good riddance. She started out pretty good then got crazy somehow. Same thing happen with Joe Manchin. They are both about to be unemployed now.
