SESTAK-GATE?
Did the White House offer Rep. Joe Sestak a job in lieu of running against Arlen Specter for the U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania? And if so, does it matter?
OK WASSUP! Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter used to be a Republican — until he switched to the Democratic party last year in order to save his seat and political life in his state. So the Democratic party sort of owed him a favor for increasing their senate majority, and the White House pulled out all the stops to help get Specter reelected. That’s when the White House supposedly enlisted the help of former President Bill Clinton to “encourage” Rep. Joe Sestak not to run in the primary and defer to Specter, which Sestak refused. Sestak ended up winning the primary, thereby ending the nearly 45 year political career of Specter. And that’s when the proverbial sh*t hit the fan.
Once the news broke that the White House had preferred supporting Specter instead of Sestak for the Democratic primary, and put their money where their mouth is by offering him a job, the GOP jumped all over it, calling it meddling at best and unethical at worse. But is it really? Anytime the White House offers anyone a job, it is understood that person would be required to drop out of the Senate, or the House, or whatever job they already have in order to accept the new position. So, if the White House truly wanted Sestak to be Secretary of the Navy, or to join the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, naturally he would have had to drop everything else he was doing (like running for U.S. Senate) in order to be available to the President of the United States. But the GOP smells a rat and is calling for a special prosecutor to investigate. Is that truly necessary? Tell us what YOU think!
DJ:"But the GOP smells a rat and is calling for a special prosecutor to investigate."HAH. What they smell is the scent of their own bullsh*t. Let them "investigate" THAT! Now. Regarding Obama's decision to allow Bill Clinton (and possibly others) to "encourage" Sestak to NOT run: As per the folks who know the history of how "the game” is played, THIS type of “encouragement” is "typical" in politics. But therein lies the problem for Pres. Obama. It’s NOT “Change.” It’s politics as usual. It may NOT be illegal. But it sure looks bad_smh.
