SHE’S GOT THE VOTES

Spread The Love
Nearly a month after being nominated, after dozens of sit down meetings with leaders on Capitol Hill, and after countless attacks by Republicans against her character, race, and womanhood, it appears Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court is all but a done deal.  The White House has been monitoring the situation very carefully and believes Judge Sotomayor will garner at least 70 votes, which is more than enough to seat the first Hispanic to the bench come this fall.
`
The White House fully expects some last minute grandstanding and drama from Republicans.  Recently, GOP Sen. Bob Corker (TN) refused to meet with Judge Sotomayor saying she was 10 minutes late and he “didn’t feel like waiting.”  But the Senator did not take into account Sotomayor’s recent accident which broke her ankle and currently has her hobbling slowly on crutches.  Still, the White House believes that even with Sens. Robert Byrd or Ted Kennedy absent from the Senate (due to illness), but with Al Franken of MN likely seated, 11 GOP Senators will cross party lines completing the 70 vote target and a smooth sailing towards confirmation.
