Shutdown Blame-Game: US Closed For Business

- Who do you blame? TAKE OUR POLL!

The United States government is officially shutdown for business.  As the blame-game begins, whose fault is it?

Top News Today
On Friday night at midnight, Congress failed to reach an agreement to keep the government up and running.  So, the government shutdown.  This now means no social security checks will be mailed.  None of the men and women in the US Military will be paid.  Federal parks and landmarks will not operate — and more.

So, who’s responsible for the shutdown?  According to Donald Trump: THE DEMOCRATS.

HUH???

shutdown

Although Republicans control ALL branches of government (White House, House of Representatives, and Senate), the party with the least amount of power in all of Washington is supposedly to blame for the shutdown???  Yeah, right!

Saturday was the 1 year anniversary of the Trump inauguration.  In celebration of the anniversary, Republicans handed Trump a government shutdown, while women in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and various points across the country threw him a “party” of sorts with a 2018 version of last year’s Women’s March.  So, where was “The Donald” amid all the weekend’s festivities?  Interestingly, 3 days into perhaps the biggest domestic crisis of his presidency, Trump has been radio silent and surprisingly on the sidelines watching a legislative process on Capitol Hill from 16 blocks away. Although he briefly surfaced to tweet that Republican lawmakers should change the rules to their favor so that he can get his way, Trump hasn’t been seen in public since the shutdown began.

SHUTDOWN DOUBLE-STANDARD

For Donald Trump to blame Democrats and not himself or his own party for the shutdown is laughable — particularly since Trump told Fox News in 2013 that the blame for a government shutdown ultimately goes to the president.

shutdown

Yes, Trump criticized President Barack Obama during the 2013 government shutdown for failing to “lead,” “get everyone in a room,” and “make a deal.”

“Problems start from the top, and they have to get solved from the top, and the President’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room, and he’s got to lead,” Trump said.  “And he [Barack Obama] doesn’t do that, he doesn’t like doing that, that’s not his strength. And that’s why you have this horrible situation going on in Washington. It’s a very, very bad thing and it’s very embarrassing worldwide.”

So, if Mr. Obama was to blame in 2013 for failing to “lead,” “get everyone in a room,” and “make a deal,”  why is Trump not to blame under the same circumstances in 2018???

Top News Today
By allowing a government shutdown, Donald Trump gambled that the public would exonerate him and his gullible GOP’ers from responsibility.  Wrong again, Donald!

According to a new national ABC News/Washington Post poll, 48% of those surveyed said they blame Trump and the GOP while 28% blame Democrats. Another survey by Quinnipiac University national poll found 32% blame Republicans, 21% Trump and 34% Democrats.

“In the public’s eyes this will be another divisive moment, another moment of unease,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll. “If you’re someone facing a 2018 election, any kind of chaos and unease is going to hurt you. And if you’re a Republican, which controls the House, the Senate and the presidency, you may be more vulnerable.”

Hmm…  powerful words.

So, who do you blame for the Government Shutdown of 2018?

So it turns out the lying Poseur in the oval office -who’d long claimed he was a *master deal-maker* – couldn’t negotiate an actual deal (not a legitimate one anyone) if his life depended on it!

Who knew?! Lol. I kid, Of course, many of us already knew. The guy is a world-class LOSER. Full stop. And his presidency reflects just that.

His attacks against Obama are/and have always been rooted in jealousy, envy and pure hatred of Obama for being ALL of the things that Trump can never be so Trump routinely engages in psychological projection which is so obvious it’s pitiful.

As for who is most to blame for this *Shutdown*..? Trump and the Repubs.

Mr.BD

You are right again Truth. He is so jealous of Obama he can’t even stand it. Pitiful is the right word to describe him.

I also want to add…..

The issue of the real DAMAGE this presidency is doing to the U.S. goes way beyond simply Democrat vs Republicans. ALL of this madness has real world implications beginning with a “decimation of Trust” not only on a national level (among the American people) but also on a Global level, especially among Our allies around the world.

Maryanne

If the Democrats weren’t trying to let all these illegals in our country the government wouldn’t be closed today. I applaud our president for standing his ground and doing what is right.

Mr.BD

Trump claimed he was the magic deal maker. That is supposed to be what got him elected. So if he can’t make a deal work that is on him and his Repubs. He is suppose to be the leader but he is not leading. He is holding the government hostage because he is not getting what he wants. That is not a leader that is a spoiled brat.

Mr.BD

I just heard congressmen will still get paid in the shut down but anybody in the military won’t. And Trump is really trying to blame the Dems for this mess when Repubs run everything in Washington? Give me a break.

“Senate Reaches Deal To End Government Shutdown” – MSNBC

Excerpt:
WASHINGTON—The Senate is expected to vote to advance a bill that would reopen the federal government after a brief shutdown, as Democrats agreed to a short-term pause in their standoff with Republicans over immigration policy.

Once the Senate passes a final bill with a simple majority, which is expected later today, the House is expected to follow up quickly and pass the same legislation. President Donald Trump would then sign the deal into law, ending a three-day shutdown that started Saturday.

The bill would keep the government funded through Feb. 8. [….] – Wall Street Journal (WSJ)

“Senate Leaders Reach Deal to Reopen Government After a Brief Shutdown”

Democrats agree to a short-term pause in standoff over immigration

Excerpt:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) said Monday that he had reached an agreement with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) to end the impasse. Mr. Schumer said he and Mr. McConnell have “come to an arrangement” in which Democrats would provide enough votes to advance legislation funding the government for three weeks, in exchange for an assurance that the Senate would consider immigration legislation in early February, if the issue has not already been resolved.

That legislation would address the fate of so-called “Dreamers,” undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. by their parents at a young age. The Senate would consider the legislation under a process that “will be neutral and fair to all sides,” Mr. Schumer said. […] WSJ

And let me also say this……..

Trump supporters are doing their best to try and spin this absolute Failure on Trump’s part, as somehow being proof of Trump’s “strong leadership” knowing full well they’re LYING thru their teeth in a desperate attempt to deny (or ignore) the OBVIOUS truth. As president, Trump is a dangerous joke and totally UNFIT to be president.

And each and every passing day Trump goes outta of his way to confirm that.

‘It’s Morally Reprehensible’: Liberals Livid With Senate Dems Over Shutdown Deal Excerpt: Progressives and immigrant advocates are furious at Senate Democrats for agreeing to end a short-lived shutdown without any guarantee that they’ll win protections for undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as youngsters, seeing it as a full-scale capitulation by the party. The deal infuriated the left-wing groups and immigration advocates who had cheered their Friday stand — with many warning of recriminations, the first major schism on the left since President Trump’s election. “It’s morally reprehensible and political malpractice. It’s [Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer’s job to keep his caucus together and stand up for progressive values and he failed on both fronts,” Ezra Levin, a leader of the Indivisible Project, told TPM shortly after the vote. “We’re going to be holding the Democrats accountable who caved.” Others were just as mad. “Enough is enough. Basically, today Schumer ended up CAVING. He agreed to the same proposal he rejected just last Friday, including supporting paying for the wall. He got NO guarantee that a vote on DACA will actually take place in the House of Representatives anytime soon…if ever.

So um…question for Schumer and the Dems on Capitol Hill:

*do you really wanna win, or just look good losing?*

H/T: *lyrics from song “Dreams” by N.C. rap group *Little Brother*- 2007

One party has NO conscience. The other party has NO spine.

(Sigh!)

TPM Reader:
But Schumer is such a master strategist, I thought? Surely he would have foreseen the possibility of a shutdown and had the troops ready with their framing message? Surely an organized, sustained, and disciplined messaging campaign could have framed the shutdown so that the party in total control that’s opposing CHIP and DACA would be blamed for it? Surely, with every day of the shutdown costing the Rs politically, a better deal could have been made? I thought #ABetterDeal was our motto?

Oh, I guess not. […]

TPM Reader:
We’re all being premature here. While the likelihood of a DACA bill seems low, I wouldn’t jump on the Dems until we see if that in fact happens. […]
