Sinema Wins Senate Race In Arizona

Spread The Love

Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona is now officially SENATOR-elect Kyrsten Sinema.

Politics
For the past 40+ years, the State of Arizona has exclusively been represented by Republicans in the US Senate. However, all of that changed on Monday when election officials certified Sinema as the winner of last week’s hard-fought election.

SinemaThe new Senator-elect beat out Republican challenger Rep. Martha McSally for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Jeff Flake.  McSally, who led a vicious campaign by embracing Donald Trump, appeared to be victorious on election night.  However, an extremely slow count of mail-in ballots that didn’t wrap up until late Monday gave the Democratic victor an insurmountable lead.

McSally took to Twitter to offer a concession speech in acceptance of the final results.

“I wish her success,” McSally wrote. “I’m grateful to all those who supported me in this journey. I’m inspired by Arizonans’ spirit and our state’s best days are ahead of us.”

In tribute to the late Republican Sen. John McCain, Sinema said she would try to follow his example and “put country before party.”

“He taught us to assume the best in others, to seek compromise instead of sewing division, and to always put country ahead of party,” she said. “It won’t be easy, and it won’t happen overnight, but we can work together to meet the challenges our country faces. We can do this differently. For our country, for our future, for Sen. McCain, and for each other I think we must.”

.

The win will not only make Sinema the first female US Senator from the State of Arizona but will also achieve the longtime Democratic goal of flipping Arizona and its growing Latino population from red to blue.

According to The Washington Post, the Democratic win in Arizona now lists the US Senate at 51 Republican seats to 47 Democratic seats.  Only 2 races remain undecided: the senate race in Florida, which is undergoing a recount and the race in Mississippi, which is headed for a runoff.

So the “slow rolling Blue wave” continues and Our country is made all the more better for it -as long as Dems truly govern like they have some sense. But this is good news.

Trump and his ilk have proved that the the politics of Ignorance, Hate, Fear, Division, Chaos, Scapegoating and Lies is quite appealing to a “certain kind” of Americans. Thankfully, the majority of Americans are proving WE want NO part of such evil.

CONGRATS!…to Senator-elect Sinema on her historical win. The voters of McCain’s Arizona have spoken.

Well done.

(sidenote) Re: The Mississippi Senate race – they (Haters) really cannot help themselves can they? ABC News: Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith under fire over ‘public hanging’ comment ahead of runoff Less than a week into Mississippi’s Senate special election runoff, GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith is facing criticism from her African-American opponent and from civil rights groups over a comment she made about “a public hanging” in the days leading into Election Day. In a video posted by the publisher of the Bayou Brief, a Louisiana blog, Hyde-Smith, who is white, embraced a supporter after he praised her and said before a cheering crowd, “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row.” Hyde-Smith is now coming under fire from her Democratic challenger in the upcoming Nov. 27 runoff, Mike Espy, and the greater African-American community for evoking language reminiscent of lynchings that scar Mississippi’s history.… Read more »

“Republicans used redistricting to build a wall around the House. Trump just tore it down”

GOP gerrymandering did not envision the upending of the Republican coalition.

Excerpt:
Then along came President Donald Trump.

House Democrats steamrolled Republicans in an array of districts last week, from those drawn by independent commissions or courts, to seats crafted specifically by Republicans with the intention of keeping them in the GOP column.

The overriding factor: a Republican president who political mapmakers could not have foreseen at the beginning of the decade. Trump altered the two parties’ coalitions in ways that specifically undermined conventional wisdom about the House map, bringing more rural voters into the GOP tent while driving away college-educated [WHITE} voters. Welp I guess that blue wave Trump said never happened really did happen. This is big news. It even off set some other loses by Dems. I heard the voters in Arizona did not like that McSally embraced Trump and his negative ways. They wanted to send a message they want nothing to do with him so they made her pay. I love it. I also like how Sinema said she wants to be just like John McCain the way she governs. He was beloved in his state so I am sure that made a big difference to the voters there. Congratulations to Senator Sinema.

(CNN)One week ago, Senate Democrats looked to have been routed — or close to it — by their Republican counterparts. Democratic incumbents in North Dakota, Indiana and Missouri had all lost. Republicans led in Florida, Nevada, Montana and Arizona. The only “good” news for Democrats was that West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) had been re-elected in a overwhelmingly Republican state — and even that news wasn’t all that great given that Manchin is anything but a reliable Democratic vote. Boy, can a week change things. At the moment, Democrats have lost a total of one seat from where they were before the 2018 election. The worst they will do is a net loss of two seats — assuming Scott’s 12,000-ish vote lead stands after the recount and appointed Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, who is doing herself no favors, wins the November 27 runoff against former Rep. Mike Espy (D).… Read more »
