SLEEP DEPRIVATION = STROKE
Are you sleep deprived? Do you get the bare minimum of sleep per night? Well if so, you could be at risk for a stroke.
According to a new study, 30% of working adults who frequently sleep less than 6 hours a night are 4 times more likely to suffer a stroke.
This latest study was presented Monday at the Associated Professional Sleep Societies in Boston. It’s the first to link insufficient sleep to stroke. It’s also the first to confirm that even those adults who keep off extra pounds and have no other risk factors for stroke, are still at risk without proper rest.
“People know how important diet and exercise are in preventing strokes,” said study author Megan Ruiter of the University of Alabama in Birmingham. “The public is less aware of the impact of insufficient amounts of sleep. Sleep is important — the body is stressed when it doesn’t get the right amount.”
