Smollett Charged With Felony For ‘Staged’ Attack

Spread The Love

Things have gone from bad to worse for actor Jussie Smollett, who has now been officially charged with a Class 4 Felony by the Chicago Police Department.

Entertainment
Smollett, the musically gifted star of “Empire” claimed he was attacked by 2 masked men following a late night “food run” while filming last month in Chicago.  Smollett said the men shouted racist and homophobic slurs at him, tied a noose around his neck, then poured a bleach-like substance over him while yelling “This is MAGA country.”

After initially responding to the actor as a victim, Chicago PD began to discover holes in his story and could not find any footage of the alleged attack despite dozens of video cameras in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago.

On Wednesday morning, police announced they were no longer considering Smollett a victim, but a suspect.  However, by Wednesday evening, the department had officially filed charges against him and had already made “contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest.”

Smollett has been charged with disorderly conduct, a Class 4 felony that carries a possible sentence of 1 to 3 years in prison.  If convicted, he will face a number of substantial fines and will be required to pay restitution to reimburse the Chicago Police Department for the cost of their investigation.  Additionally, his career would be ruined.

In light of his impending arrest, the actor has retained Chicago criminal defense attorneys Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, as well as Los Angeles-based celebrity defense lawyer Mark Geragos (who represented singer Chris Brown in his assault case against then-girlfriend, Rihanna.)

Meanwhile, the FBI has launched their own investigation to determine if Smollett had any role in a threatening letter sent to him at Fox’s Chicago studio on January 22nd, exactly one week before his alleged assault.

Previously, the honcho’s at Fox offered their support for Smollett, even going so far as to publicly denounce any claims that he was being written off the show.  However, on Wednesday, all of that changed.

According to Variety, Fox is now considering suspending him from production on “Empire.”  He may, in fact, be written off the show completely after all.

The Jussie Smollett case is a strange one.  Celebrities, high-profile politicians, and ordinary people raced to defend him against what initially appeared to be a blatant case of racism and homophobia.  However, if his story does indeed turn out to be a huge hoax, his fabrication will be enormously detrimental for blacks, gays, and REAL victims of racist and homophobic violence going forward.

For someone whose career is riding high and on top of the world right now, the legitimate question is: WHY, JUSSIE?  WHY??

And THAT, to me, is be the biggest crime. The enormous damage this guy has now set in motion going forward for Real victims of actual hate-crimes. And please Spare Me the “he’s mentally ill” defense.

Yes, dude is obviously a “headcase.” But he’s NOT mentally incompetent that he doesn’t know right from wrong. He knew darn well what he was doing when he staged this whole thing.

And my guess it, they’re going to find out he sent himself that threatening letter too.

He wanted attention. Well now he’s got it. He may no longer have a career though. And he’s got nobody to blame for all this mess but himself.

Yep. And let this be a lesson for ALL of them – including cable news (CNN and MSNBC), in particular which once again played right into hands of Trump and his supporters: “Don’t trust the news media. They spread FAKE NEWS”!

Celebrities, politicians and activists (primarily on the Left) DIDN’T wait for the facts to come out. They rushed to judgement, each having their own agendas. Out there shooting off their mouths from jump. Recklessly throwing out accusations against their opponents based on what? Absolutely NOTHING but FALSE allegations! And where are the apologies for such claims of “modern day lynching” and other such irresponsible reactions?

Crickets.

They should all be ashamed of themselves.

Mr.BD

Truth I get your point. I was talking with a friend of mine at work about this just today. The thing with Trump and MAGA people is they have been punching and punching at us for so long people are desperate to punch back. We want a win so we don’t keep getting punched. When this man said MAGA people attacked him it was easy to believe at first because Trump already set the stage for that type violence. He encouraged it in his rallies. That made it not hard to believe something like this could happen and people wanted revenge to stop that type of wrong. As for people not waiting for the facts to come out I disagree. If a victim says they are attack we as people always give them the benefit of the doubt and protect them. That is what happened here which is not out… Read more »

BD I have the utmost Respect for you and DJ. You two gentlemen don’t have an agenda. And I don’t hold you to the same standard as those whose actions were (and too often ARE) motivated by an agenda -be it “Leftist” or “Right-wing.” We have to be careful not to let the reprehensible actions of Trump and supporters cause Us to become like him/them. And this may come as surprise to you but I don’t give everyone who cries “attack” or “rape” the benefit of the doubt, I don’t care how credible the alleged victim Appears to be. I listen as carefully as I can to the person’s story and if something just doesn’t sound right to me, I hit pause! I’d rather wait and give it time for some factual evidence to emerge that either supports OR refutes the alleged victim’s story. Suffice it to say Smollett’s story… Read more »

Breaking News (right now on CNN, MSNBC) …..

As per Chicago PD press conference: Smollett staged attack because he was “dissatisfied with his salary.”

Police: Smollett “took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to advance his own career.”

Police: Smollett “paid $3,500 to stage attack.”

Mr.BD

I have been holding out hope that this was all true. Not because I wanted somebody black to really be attacked in that way. But because I did not want to believe somebody would create a lie this big over personal gain. I even watched that interview with Robin Roberts and his tears made me feel sorry for him. Now all this comes out and it makes me wonder about the mental state of this young man. Like DJ said he was on top of the world but now he has thrown it all away. If he did this for more money now he is making no money. His whole career and everything he worked for is ruined and I have to admit it is sad.

Truthiz1

You’re a good man BD. You wanted to believe the guy’s story absent any “agenda” on your part.

Sadly, he didn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt he got from people like you

(CNN)The studio and network behind Fox’s “Empire” say they are considering their options, following the arrest of television actor Jussie Smollett.

“We understand the seriousness of this matter and we respect the legal process,” 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN on Thursday. “We are evaluating the situation and we are considering our options.”

The company’s statement came hours after Smollett was arrested on suspicion of filing a false report.

Truthiz1

Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson: “First, Smollett attempted to gain attention by sending a false letter that relied on racial, homophobic and political language,” Johnson said. “When that didn’t work, Smollett paid $3,500 to stage this attack and drag Chicago’s reputation through the mud in the process. … This stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary. So he concocted a story about being attacked.” When investigators figured out the real motive behind the attack, “quite frankly, it pissed everybody off,” Johnson said. “It’s just despicable,” he said. “It makes you wonder what’s going on in someone’s mind to be able to do something like that. … I’m left hanging my head and asking why? Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and… Read more »

I am personally struggling with my anger at this “idiot”.

HE SOLD OUT THE BLACK/AFRICAN-AMERICAN, OTHER POC, AND LBGTQ COMMUNITIES FOR $3500!!! ENTIRE COMMUNITIES HAVE TO BEAR THE BRUNT OF HIS TREASONOUS, SELFISH ACTIONS.

Saying that I feel betrayed is an understatement 1000x greater than the incompetence of the entire Trump Confederacy!

I have no shame in saying this but I want to beat down this fool myself. I’m pretty sure someone will beat me to the punch. […]
