SNOOP LION REINVENTED
He’s gone from Gangsta’s to Rasta’s. Calvin Broadus, Jr.. AKA Snoop Dogg, is now Snoop Lion. SNOOP LION?
Yes, the artist formally known as Snoop Dogg has had a name change — and a change of heart. A new found spirituality after a recent trip to Jamaica has prompted the former leader of “The Dogg Pound” to select the new moniker “Snoop Lion.”
“I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion,” the 20-year-rap veteran said. “I didn’t know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg.’ And he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion.’ From that moment on, it’s like I had started to understand why I was there.”
Snoop Dogg created his pig-tailed image and hard-core brand by rapping about the things he knew from his neighborhood: murder, misogyny and marijuana. But now that he is Snoop Lion, he wants to abandon that image completely (with the exception of the marijuana, of course) to spread messages about peace and harmony — especially since his millions has kept him quite distant from the rough streets of his old South Central LA hood.
But Snoop wants it known that his reinvention is no gimmick — nor remnants of some bad chronic. His Jamaican journey now has him channeling Bob Marley, and Snoop “Lion” says his next recording project will now be a reggae album. Hmmm…
PULeeeze!!!
