DONALD STERLING
“I wish I had just paid her off!”

Those are the first and only public words from Donald Sterling following his racist rant, as he admits that he wishes he could have bought V. Stiviano’s silence.  There was no apology.  No remorse.  Only a wish that he could have used his vast fortune to shut her up!

V. STIVIANO
After dodging the media for days, Stiviano sat down last Friday for an exclusive interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters.  The 31-year-old former mistress of Donald Sterling stood firm to claims that she was not responsible for their recorded phone conversation being made public, blaming the person whom she asked to hold the recordings for safe keeping.  Hmmm…

“I think he feels very alone. Not truly supported by those around him,” Stiviano said. “Tormented. Emotionally traumatized.”

Stiviano added that she does not consider Sterling a racist.

“No, I don’t believe that in my heart,” she told Walters. ” I think the things he says are not what he feels. Anyone can say anything in the heat of the moment.

“I think he comes from a different generation … he was brought up to believe these things … segregation, whites and blacks. But through his actions, he’s shown that he’s not a racist.”

NBA
current events sports racism top news todayThe NBA is proceeding with plans to force Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers.  Over the weekend, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement that the league will appoint a CEO to oversee operations of the team during this period of limbo following the suspension of Sterling.  The NBA is allowing longtime Clippers president Andy Roeser to remain with the team for now, but will immediately begin the process of identifying a chief executive officer to successfully run the basketball franchise until Sterling can sell it.

In an interesting twist, Donald Sterling appears to be preparing a legal battle against the NBA to retain the organization. Sterling has reportedly hired a team of attorneys to investigate other NBA owners who may have made similar racial remarks, claiming a double standard and an overreach by the league in their punishment of him.  More to come…

NAACP
Surprise, surprise!  Only hours before he was to be kicked out, Leon Jenkins resigned as President of the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP.

Jenkins quit late last Thursday amid plans to award Sterling with a SECOND lifetime achievement award from the famed civil rights organization.  Over the years, Sterling paid off donated large sums of money to the LA NAACP, effectively buying earning himself recognition.

Despite the fact that Sterling has faced THREE messy and public discrimination lawsuits — 2 from the Feds, and 1 from former Clippers GM Elgin Baylor, Jenkins defended Sterling for being a caring man who frequently gave away hundreds of Clippers tickets to underprivileged kids.  Jenkins may have been bought out to be silent, but the public at large wasn’t the least bit forgiving.  The ouster of Jenkins was the best hope to salvage the now tainted reputation of the Los Angeles NAACP.

Current Events from OK WASSUP!

Donald Sterling has inadvertently made a mockery of himself, a media star of V. Stiviano and a laughingstock of the Los Angeles NAACP. With this bizarre tale continuing to provide new developments by the day, what could possibly be next?

Nice summary breakdown of this sorry saga DJ. Okay…..1st: Regarding V. Stiviano (or whatever her real name is?…having changed her name several times over the years): She really needs to go somewhere and "SIDDOWN" and Shut.Up. And I hope men, particularly men like Sterling (rich and easily duped) are taking note – *TRICKS*…Ooops I mean chicks like Stiviano are a dime a dozen. They WILL play you AND betray you without giving it a 2nd thought!!! 2nd- the LA chapter of the NAACP is a joke and ( I repeat) should be closed..immediately. 3rd – Regarding the NBA (and more specifically..the chances that Silver can convince the majority of NBA owners to vote in favor of Sterling selling the Clippers, given Sterling ain't going away without a fight): I pointed to something in a post last week (Sterling, Stern and Silver are all of Jewish heritage). Upon further research I… Read more »

I think we all can agree that they need to shut down the NAACP office if they were aware of racism and ignored it. It is not merely firing the heads but everyone along the way who suspected or knew and remained quiet. I have a strong feeling that there will be a lot more departures from that office.

(on a somewhat related sidenote)… In the past week there's been a lot of chatter about Phil Jackson wanting Steve Kerr as the Knicks new head coach. No question – Kerr's resume is impressive. He's a retired NBA player (and 5X NBA world champion). Also a former NBA exec. And he's been an NBA analyst. But has held NOT ONE job as a basketball coach at any level, Anywhere. Now please don't misunderstand me. I''m NOT saying that Jackson shouldn't consider Kerr. But here's what has really got my attention: It's being reported that SEVERAL other NBA teams are now interested in Kerr as their new head coach (the Golden State Warriors and the Utah Jazz). So to paraphrase Stephen A. Smith and a few others who are a bit taken aback and asking: "What's Up? Why is Kerr…a man with NO coaching pedigree at all….being seriously courted by several… Read more »

Mr. BD

I gotta agree with you Truth. If the NAACP was taking money from this man and ignoring his racism, that whole office needs to be shut down. That's a slap in the face to all black people. I think there's more to this story that's about to come out. Shady dealings were going on.
