Strong Case Against Donald Trump?

Spread The Love

Is the New York prosecution against Donald Trump a weak or strong case?

Politics :
On Wednesday, we discussed here how several legal analysts went on record as saying they believe the Trump case is weak. In fact, these analysts said it appears the case is so weak, it only rises to the level of a misdemeanor and not a felony (as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is charging).

Strong Case
Alvin Bragg

“I know there was a lot of talk over the past several weeks and the past several days about what’s going to be in this indictment and what’s going to be there that we don’t know, (that) there must be something besides what we’ve been talking about for the past four or five years,” Trump attorney, Todd Blanche said. “There wasn’t. There’s nothing. The indictment itself is boilerplate.”

“It’s really disappointing,” Blanche added. “It’s sad, and we’re gonna fight it.”

However, additional analysts have since come forward with the opinion that not only has Bragg established a strong case against Trump, but the “appearance” of it being weak is merely a savvy calm before the storm.

According to John Dean, lawyer and former White House counsel for President Richard Nixon who testified against him during the Watergate scandal, Bragg kept certain details of the indictment basic so as not to tip his hand too early.

Strong Case
John Dean

“He has to put people on notice and he’s done that,” Dean said while reminding the general public that Bragg and his team have filed dozens of these “bread and butter” falsification of records cases and have become very skilled at them. “I think that by saying less, they’ve opened themselves up to less attack in the pretrial motion stage, a shrewd move on their part.”

“Politically, it gives Trump probably more to talk about and more opportunity to claim all of his grievances,” Dean said. “But, legally, I think that they probably have put together a very powerful case.”

Another legal analyst surmised that although Bragg is going after Donald Trump for violating campaign finance laws, the district attorney sprinkled references to tax law violations into the indictment — a sign that he may intend to bring a broader case against Trump than anyone is expecting.

Norm Eisen, who served on the attorney team for Democrats during Trump’s first impeachment, believes Bragg has a strong case to bring charges under both federal and state election laws.

Strong Case

“Look, it can’t be that Donald Trump lives in some special universe when neither state nor federal campaign law applies to him. It has to be that one or the other applies, and I don’t think that a judge is going to buy into that Catch-22,” he said.

As the old saying goes: “Everything isn’t always as it seems.”

The fact that Alvin Bragg didn’t lay all his cards on the table on Tuesday for all the world to see doesn’t mean he has a weak case. Bragg could be playing possum with what he knows with the intent to release holy hell on Donald Trump during the New York trial.

DJ, thanks for this expanding of yesterday’s topic.

I’m very inclined to agree with all points made by John Dean.

And I absolutely agree with attorney Norm Eisen. Trump doesn’t live in his own special universe where neither state nor federal campaign laws applies to him.

I like the fact that the judge hasn’t hit Trump with a “gag order” yet. But it’s been reported that the judge did warn him Trump will be held accountable for whatever comes out of his mouth especially if it leads to any of his followers committing an act of violence.

I will say what I said yesterday. I really hope the case is strong. If not it will be an embarrassment and could set all the other cases back too. We do not need to give Trump any more reasons to play the victim.
