Swing Voters And The Trump Impeachment

Spread The Love

The Donald Trump impeachment inquiry has unified Democrats into war mode and Republicans into defense mode.  However, how is it playing among swing voters?  The answer might surprise you.

Politics
Rich Thau, co-founder and president of Engagious, conducted research on swing voters in the upper Midwest State of Ohio.  Interestingly, he discovered that a wide swatch of these voters did not like the impeachment inquiry and that it could actually work against Democrats at the ballot box.

In a televised segment with CNN’s Michael Smerconish, swing voters in Ohio told Thau they thought the impeachment inquiry was merely a way for Democrats to have a “do-over” and erase the results of the 2016 presidential election.  Additionally, they said they would much rather Democrats focus on “real problems facing real Americans” and to beat Trump in the November election and not via an impeachment proceeding.

Swing Voters

One voter said she wasn’t sure yet whether Democratic calls for impeachment were warranted.  Others said they wanted to see more facts about allegations that Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate potential 2020 rival Joe Biden and Biden’s son Hunter.

The thought process of voters in Ohio is surprising, particularly at a time when more and more Republicans (including many who once worked with and/or served in the Trump administration) are providing testimony against Trump and coming around to the belief that it might be time to consider removing him.  His actions in Ukraine, his rash decision to remove troops in Syria and reinvigorate ISIS, and his support of personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to “go rogue” and theoretically operate a shadow government has tainted his preparedness to remain president. So, why are Ohio voters the last to recognize what’s really going on?

Are Ohio swing voters onto something and a correct representation of the minds of voters across the country?  Or are they completely misinformed and totally unaware of the dangers that Donald Trump potentially poses for American democracy?

These people in Ohio must be some d-mn fools. How stupid do you have to be to go on tv and say stop talking about all Trump is doing wrong. Are we not suppose to hold him accountable for nothing? It is dumb people like that who don’t pay attention to anything and would get Trump elected again.

Lol…now BD don’t get your blood pressure up!

But seriously. I feel you. And you’re right. “it is dumb people like that who don’t pay attention to anything and would get Trump elected again.”

Which is why I’m praying that- on the day that it really counts, there are a lot more of Us (intelligent folk who DO pay attention) then them!

Btw- I’m curious as to just how many of those people voted for Trump?

Speaking as a native Pennsylvanian (one of the “perennial” swing states), PA has more than our share of “Not too bright” folks. People whose judgement I wouldn’t trust on Any given day, on Any matter. Naive, gullible and easily deceived is about as charitable as I can be in describing them.

Add a bit of anti-intellectual resentment to the mix and there you have it. Your typical Trump voter.

They don’t call Central PA “little Alabama” for nothing. Ohio is a neighboring state. I’ve driven through Ohio quite a few times, on my way to Chicago. IMO, there’s Not much, if any, difference in the cultures.
