Telemarketer Remedy Stops Sales Calls

Meet Jolly Roger, a robot designed to lead a telemarketer down a rhetorical maze that becomes so frustrating, they’ll never want to call you again.
The next time someone calls you trying to sell automatic egg beaters or cigar smoking frog figurines, simply tap “add call.” Then just dial 214-666-4321 and merge the calls. That’s when the Jolly Roger Telephone Co. voice recording will take over and take the telemarketer to their absolute wits end.
The Jolly Roger robotic script is designed to trick someone into trying to engage it for as long as possible. Pretending to be you, the bot uses such affirmative statements as “yes” and a curious “OK.”  It also mixes in questions like “Sorry, could you start over? Who’s this? Why are you calling?” It even goes off on totally unrelated tangents and distractions, leading an annoyed telemarketer to try to make sense out of a totally lifeless recording.
Jolly Roger was created by Roger Anderson, who now has a YouTube channel where he documents various telemarketers encountering his robot. Some of the telemarketers figure out eventually that they’re dealing with a bot, but others are completely clueless and continue going in circles just to capture that almighty sale.
Oh, and if you ever get to a place where you begin to feel bad for the telemarketer. don’t! According to Anderson, many of these salespeople are circumventing Do Not Call lists by using machines to ping thousands of people at a time and other shady sales tactics. So, if they can use a machine for their own advantage, why can’t you?
Of course some of the telemarketer calls originate from robots.  So, imagine how much fun Jolly Roger will be when a robot encounters another robot?
