Telosa: The Modern ‘Metropolis’ Of The Future

Spread The Love

Telosa, a modern and sustainable new metropolis with the cleanliness of Tokyo, the diversity of New York, and the social services of Stockholm may soon be coming to a desert near you.

Tech
Billionaire and former Walmart executive Marc Lore has announced his intentions to build a new kind of American city in the desert which will become the model for all cities of the future.  He has chosen to dub the new city Telosa, which comes from the ancient Greek word “telos” and was a term used by the philosopher Aristotle to describe an inherent or higher purpose.

According to Lore, the ambitious $400 billion, 150,000-acre, and 5 million resident municipality will feature eco-friendly architecture, sustainable energy production, and a drought-resistant water system. Additionally, a “15-minute city design” will allow residents to access their jobs, schools, shopping, and other amenities all within a quarter-hour commute of their homes.

The inner workings of Telosa will be based on transparent governance or a “new model for society.”  According to Lore, the city will allow residents to “participate in the decision-making and budgeting process,” while a community endowment will offer residents shared ownership of the land.

“Cities that have been built to date from scratch are more like real estate projects,” Lore said. “They don’t start with people at the center. Because if you started with people at the center, you would immediately think, ‘OK, what’s the mission and what are the values?’

“The mission of Telosa is to create a more equitable and sustainable future. That’s our North Star,” Lore added.

Digital renderings by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the architecture firm hired to bring Telosa to life, presented images of residential buildings covered with greenery and autonomous vehicles traveling alongside scooters and pedestrians (fossil-fuel-powered vehicles/cars will be banned). Another image depicted Equitism Tower, a proposed skyscraper, featuring elevated water storage, aeroponic farms, and an energy-producing photovoltaic roof for the building to “share and distribute all it produces.”

Construction on the first phase of Telosa would accommodate 50,000 residents across 1,500 acres and cost an estimated $25 billion. Funding would come from private investors, philanthropists, federal and state grants, and economic development subsidies.

Lore expects the first residents to be able to move in by 2030.  Additional phases would be completed over the next 40 years.

Hmmm. An “environmentally friendly” Utopian city created by a Super Rich guy for the Super-Rich crowd. And no worries because:

“The mission of Telosa is to create a more equitable and sustainable future. That’s our North Star,” Lore added.

Additionally, it would compliment so well the “Starship flight to Disneyland and back” Super-Rich crowd. (SEE the mini-spaceship endeavors of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos respectively).

I mean – what’s not to love about these types of incredible vanity projects?! /sarc.

Okay…all joking and sarcasm aside….I’m with Youtube Commenters on this:

On a serious note, it’s kinda rich to hear a Wal-Mart exec complaining about the wealth gap after helping shift manufacturing to China for decades. […]

There are so many towns in the U.S that need revitalization. Why build a new one? […]

Commenter:
Like Arcosanti was such a screaming success? Remember when billionaire’s vanity projects were building public libraries. […]

Youtube Commenter:
Building an environmentally friendly city in the middle of the desert has been done already and it failed. It’s called Dubai.

Instead of building an entire city on top of the Mojave desert, defeating the purpose of being eco friendly, we should implement better solutions and environmentally friendly alternatives into every day life of the society that is already here. We need to stop expanding and leave room for nature to have for herself.

Why would you destroy nature, especially a sacred place like the Mojave desert, to build a city that is being built to be more eco friendly, that makes no sense. That’s like writing “Save the trees” on a piece of paper. […]

Mr.BD

This city will never get built. Only rich people would come up with something like this.

Truthiz1

BD, you’re right on both points. Full stop.
