On Saturday night, terror rocked the upscale New York City neighborhood of Chelsea, after a homemade bomb exploded near 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan. Â The explosion rattled glass and nerves, injuring 29 people and scaring the daylights out of scores of others. Â All of the injured were taken to area hospitals, however, none of their injuries were life-threatening.
Only a few blocks away, authorities discovered another “pressure cooker” style bomb device, connected to wires and a cell phone. Â Although the device did not detonate, it was believed to have been set and controlled by the same person or persons responsible for the Chelsea act of terror.
In New Jersey, an explosion occurred near a charity race in the seaside community of Seaside Park. Then, authorities found a suspicious backpack inside a trash bin near the site containing at least 5 explosive devices. Â While disarming it, one of the bombs exploded.
“Whoever threw it into the can was probably trying to get rid of it. It’s not in a highly congested area,” Mayor Chris Bollwage of Elizabeth, NJ said.
Earlier in the day, Dahir Adan stabbed 9 random people at a mall in St. Cloud, MN before he was shot dead by police.
Although the Minnesota stabber was killed following his crimes, the New York and New Jersey terror suspect(s) remained on the loose throughout the weekend. However, FBI officials were able to determine the face and identity of a man who was seen on surveillance cameras nearby where both bombs were placed on the night of the crime.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, of Elizabeth, NJ was publicly named as a “person of interest” and his image was plastered across TV screens throughout the country. He is a naturalized US citizen who was born in Afghanistan and has traveled back to his home country multiple times within the past few months. Early Monday, a New Jersey bar owner discovered Rahami sleeping in the doorway of his establishment and called authorities. A gun battle ensued and Rahami was taken into custody.
Investigators linked Rahami to the devices from New York and New Jersey, FBI Assistant Director in Charge William Sweeney said. He declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation. According to officials, investigators believe Rahami is the man seen on surveillance video dragging a duffel bag near the site of the New York explosion, and the location where police eventually found a suspicious pressure cooker 4 blocks away.
Now that they have their man, police are beginning to investigate if Rahami might be responsible for both the New York and New Jersey bomb devices, if he acted alone or as part of a group, and if it’s possible that he is part of a larger American-based terror cell that’s responsible for the New York/New Jersey bombings AND the stabbing incident in Minnesota.
Over the weekend New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio was reluctant to call the bombings an act of terror. Â However, now that federal authorities have taken over the investigations, there is no doubt that based on the events of last weekend, terrorism has once again reared its ugly head on American soil.
If he hasn't already I know Trump is probably going to say this is why we need to keep Muslims out.
