The Biden – Harris Inauguration has ushered in a new era of hope for America.

The day began with a church service with Democratic and Republican leaders alike joining the Biden-Harris families for a moment of worship. The new administration then headed to The Capitol for the swearing-in ceremonies.

Vice-President Kamala Harris took her oath of office first, borrowing a bible once owned by the late Justice Thurgood Marshall and sworn-in by Latina justice Sonia Sotomayor. At 11:45am, she made triple-history by becoming the first Black, South Asian, and female vice-president of the US ever.

The oath by President Joe Biden was next. Due to a scheduling error by planners, his oath was administered 10 minutes too early. However, the clock struck 12 noon while he was giving his inaugural remarks and it was only then that he became the official POTUS.

Following the inauguration, President Biden and Vice-President Harris were joined by former presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The Biden – Harris inauguration celebration then continued with a muted parade that ended at The White House. Next, the new president and vice-president entered their perspective offices to get right down to work.

President Biden signed a number of executive orders on his first day in office, which included rejoining the Paris accord, repealing the Muslim travel ban, and more. He also swore-in 1000+ temporary cabinet and administrative workers so that his government could be up and running until the US Senate confirms permanent nominees.

Vice-President Harris swore-in 3 new senators during her first hours in office: Sens. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff of Georgia, as well as Sen. Alex Padilla of California, who replaces the former Sen. Harris.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki held a press conference and pledged to the media that the Biden administration will strive for an honest and non-antagonistic relationship with them. She also promised to return to the practice of holding daily press briefings, which was in stark contrast to the previous administration.

The Biden – Harris inauguration was truly a day to remember — and threats of violence against the day were squashed and defeated.

Thanks for putting this together DJ. You always cover the inauguration for as long as I can remember except Trump. Yesterday was a real special day. I have to admit I did get a little misty eyed watching Kamala get sworn in. Amanda Gorman caught me off guard too. She is really good. The whole day was well done and I am glad we are finally done with that old nightmare.
