The Man Who Ate The $120000 Banana (Art Exhibit)
Did you hear the one about the man who ate the $120000 banana? No, it’s not the start of a limerick. It actually happened and has turned the art world upside down.
Entertainment
Renowned Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan created a piece for the Art Basel in Miami Beach called “Comedian,” which was nothing more than an actual banana duct-taped to a wall. Somehow, the art world believed the piece was truly artistic and valued it at $120,000.
Then, along came installation and performance artist David Datuna of Georgia. Instead of joining the crowds and standing back and admiring the duct-taped banana, he grabbed it off the wall and ate it.
So, did the hungry performance artist apologize to the shocked onlookers? Not on your life.
“It wasn’t vandalism, it was art performance from me and absolutely I am not sorry,” Datuna said during a press conference on Monday.
The man who ate the $120,000 banana then called Cattelan “one of the top artists in the world.” When asked how that was possible if he ate his art, Datuna insisted that he did not consider the performance as defacing another artist’s work and even called the duct-taped banana a genius idea.
“In this case, it’s not like I ate art,” Datuna said. “Like the gallery said, it’s not a banana, it’s a concept. And I just ate the concept of the artist. So I think this is cool, this is fun, this is what art is about.
“I call the performance, ‘Hungry Artist,’ because I was hungry and I just ate it,” Datuna added.
Instead of simply replacing the banana with another one, Art Base decided to remove the exhibit permanently.
Oh well, when a group of allegedly professional art connoisseurs considers a ripe banana to be actual art, no one should be shocked when a man comes along and helps himself to a snack.
THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!

DJ, I like your use of the word “alleged” to describe the professional art idiots who actually view what I call *idiot art* (in this case, a ripe banana taped to a wall) as serious art.
Only in the world of the “elites” can people afford to be so dumb.
TGIF!
