THUNDER – HEAT
Bring on the Thunder, bring on the Heat — the NBA finals are set!
In an electrifying Game 7 on Saturday night, the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics to clinch the Eastern Conference championship and a trip to the NBA finals against Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder, beginning tomorrow night.
Last week, the Celtics were up 3-2 at home in a Game 6 that was theirs to lose — and they did. LeBron James put the Heat on his back to force a Game 7 back in Miami, then put on a virtual basketball clinic to seal the deal with a win Saturday night and chance for a ring.
I, like some other basketball fans, are not supporters of LeBron James. The way he mis-handled free agency, the way he cockily summoned teams to HIM rather than the other way around, the way he and his new team mates celebrated far too early with an over-the-top Miami pep-rally while predicting 7 immediate championships, the entire idea of a “super-team” that would wreak havoc through the league — it was all just too much for me, the city of Cleveland and so many other fans of the game to stomach.
But on Saturday night, former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy said there is a statue of limitations on stupidity. Or in other words, he was coming to James’ defense by surmising that enough time has passed and enough humility has occurred for James to be forgiven.
With his focused play, LeBron James has earned the right to return to the NBA finals. But is this his time to receive that all elusive title?
As I've expressed before on OK Wassup!, I've never been a fan of any NBA team. I've simply enjoyed watching certain players play since being drafted into the league, Lebron James and D. Wade being at the top of that list. C. Bosh was added to that list last year, after a season of watching him play.Haven't followed the NBA much this year. I did catch the 4th qtr of game 7 against the Celtics. James, Wade and Bosh have another chance now to win it all. But they will surely have to work their behinds off to get it done. Win or lose, Lebron must NOT *choke.* Btw: I enjoy watching Durant, Westbrook and Hardin play too. And I hope the finals live up to the hype.May the best team win 😉 !
