Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are no more.
Katie filed for divorce late last week, reportedly over Tom’s deep ties to Scientology. Apparently, Katie feared that Tom would drag their daughter, Suri Cruise, deep into the church, which she feared.
Although Katie joined Scientology when she and Tom were married, sources say Katie was never fully committed to its controversial teachings. Also, she and Tom had been arguing over Suri’s participating in church life since she’s now of the age where Scientology was becoming a significant part of her life.
Katie filed for divorce in New York, where she believes she has a better chance of getting sole legal custody, specifically so that Tom will be unable to control decisions relating to religion.
Sources say the divorce is NOT about money. Katie doesn’t need Tom’s money since she has plenty of it and will be well taken care of under the terms of their prenup. The split is about Scientology, which Katie fears will corrupt young Suri’s life.
Tom openly professed his love for Katie Holmes 6 years ago, by memorably jumping up and down on the sofa while appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Now, it appears Scientology has muted the couple’s bliss.
