Tornadoes Trounce Oklahoma…AGAIN!
Last Friday, Oklahoma City residents heard a familiar phrase that they’d all rather not hear: TAKE COVER!
Once again, a deadly tornado swept through the city, damaging property and tossing cars around like rag dolls. It was the 3rd such storm in the area in less than a month.
Residents were still reeling and cleaning up from the previous tornado that struck just 11 days ago and wreaked havoc on the suburban town of Monroe, killing dozens. Now, this latest monster of multiple twisters combined into 1 caught the area off guard and pounced without much warning. In all, at least 5 tornadoes touched down Friday evening, killing 9 and injuring more than 50.
When emergency sirens were sounded, residents raced to take cover, not wanting a repeat of the previous deadly storm. “This storm had everything you could handle at one time: tornadoes, hail, lightning, heavy rain, people clogging the highways,” said Rick Smith of the National Weather Service.
Fortunately, the storms touched down in mostly rural areas, sparing highly populated downtown Oklahoma City.
