TrackR Tracks Your Lost Items
Latest Technology In Computers
Introducing TrackR, a new high tech/low energy dongle designed to help you keep track of missing or misplaced items. TrackR operates via Bluetooth technology and has just been upgraded to communicate peer-to-peer with other TrackR devices in your vicinity. This means that if you’re at a restaurant (for example), have lost your keys and are out of range, you’ll be able to tap into a larger TrackR network and locate the missing item. Since such a task requires a network to be worthwhile, the company is also giving away $100,000 worth of StickR TrackR devices to kick start their efforts. More on that later…
TrackR dongles offer user-replaceable batteries and can communicate with a nearby iPhone or Android app up to 100 feet away. Previously, the devices would disconnect when out of range, however, the new support for peer-to-peer communication changes that with a feature called “Crowd GPS. This means that when an item goes missing, all TrackR-enabled phones join in the search.

As previously mentioned, TrackR is giving away $100,000 worth of its technology to build its market. The company will determine who gets their dongle for free by assigning users to “boarding groups” based on a variety of actions, including their willingness to invite friends, share on social networks, pay the shipping fees, or buy an additional device for a discount. (It’s normally $24.95, but users can buy the extra one for $19.95). Those who push their way into boarding groups 1 and 2 will receive the free dongles. I just got bumped up to Group 1 by paying for shipping and you can too.
