TRACY MORGAN ATONES
He may have been totally genuine and sincere. Or he may have the best handler’s in the business. But after his insulting gay rant during a recent stand-up routine, comedian Tracy Morgan sure knows how to ask for — and get forgiveness.
As OK WASSUP! reported HERE, Morgan said during a recent routine in Nashville, that if his son came home talking to him all (flamboyantly) gay, “I’d stab that lil’ n*gga to death.” Those words set off an immediate backlash from people who believed the remark went too far, primarily with acts of violence against gays and lesbians still very prevalent.
Recognizing he had crossed the line and how damaging his words could be to his career, Morgan immediately issued the following statement:
“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”
Morgan also took an additional step, by visiting with gay and lesbian youth in New York City last Friday. During the meeting, which was organized by GLAAD, Morgan spent quality time speaking with several gay teens, including Jayden Love and Raciel Castillo, who were both forced to live on the streets after getting kicked out by their families.
“We really appreciate that we were able to meet with Tracy Morgan,” the teens said. “We hope that our stories have the power to change not only Tracy’s perspective, but those of any parent who may be struggling with accepting their child.”
Next, Morgan will travel back to Nashville and apologize to the folks he offended there and meet with the Tennessee Equality Project.
Now THAT’S how you atone!
