This morning I read a related article on another site that was also posted yesterday. As per that article, Time Magazine named Jazz "one of the 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014." And Jazz is now starring in a new reality show called "I Am Jazz" which debuted last week on TLC.

But here is what really jumped out at me and I found most disturbing:

1. "It all started when Jazz did something truly courageous at the age of 5: She came out to the world as transgender."

2. In a recent interview Jazz did on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" she admitted that the attention she receives for her bravery and advocacy is not without its pressures. "It [can] be very overwhelming sometimes when so many people look up to me as an inspiration and a role model," Jazz admits. "I feel like I have to live up to those expectations."

Think about that for aminute. A FIVE y/o child "came out" as transgender. WHAT!?!

And that child, now a teenager, feels that he/she HAS to live up the expectations of others.

Just very disturbing to me….smh.

Btw DJ- Thanks for bringing this young person to my attention.

What I don't like is when a parent let's their child do it like with Jazz you were mentioning in the article. That's too much. As for the drag queens, that's what I can't get ready for. Most of them are doing it for attention and to be accepted with the other queens they hang out with. They're not feeling like a girl on the inside. When I see a already tall queen walking around with nine inch heels and becoming even taller, plus they're wearing these outlandish outfits and makeup, I already know they crave attention and I look away.

Instead you've taken a much different road; highlighting a much more serious topic.

One paragraph really sums up my concern related to this issue:

"The pro-transgender advocates do not want to know,” said McHugh, “that studies show between 70% and 80% of children who express transgender feelings spontaneously lose those feelings over time.” Also, for those who had sexual reassignment surgery, most said they were “satisfied” with the operation “but their subsequent psycho-social adjustments were no better than those who didn’t have the surgery. […]

And this……

For the effeminate male or the emasculate female to take their inner feelings all the way to gender reassignment, this could be a recipe for irreversible disaster. [….]

Our country already has a pretty poor history in the field of Mental Health (providing easy access to affordable AND effective treatment). I shudder to think how many transgenders will find themselves added to the list of the "severely walking wounded" in the very near future as more and more confused and hurting people (youths and adults) opt for the surgical quick-fix believing it will cure whatever ails them only to discover that their inner turmoil has actually been made much worse.

Coincidently, in recent months I have been reading about the rate of major depression and suicide among transgenders. None of the info I've seen is positive.

Adults are going to do whatever they want to do.

But why on earth any parent would consent to a allowing their minor child to take such a drastic step is beyond me!?!
