I'm assuming you've focused on the trash you see in the forefront of the photos and not on the intricate shadowed images created behind the trash? These artists were able to take everyday household items, arrange them in a strategic way, then focus a light to create the shadows you see on the walls behind them. Some people are unable to draw those shadowed images, yet these artists took their creativity to an entirely new level. I definitely consider it art since it is so unique and no one before them (to my knowledge) ever created such a concept.

Given my feeling that much of what passes for creative "Art" in America (art, movies, music)…particularly over the past 15-20 yrs…is indeed just plain trash/garbage.

Costly trash. But trash nevertheless.
