Every carnival barker knows there’s no circus without any elephants.
So when Republican ringmaster/rodeo clown Donald Trump realized yesterday that the GOP debate he had hoped to moderate on December 27th would not have any Republican elephants participating, he pronounced the event canceled!
“I believe this would not only have been the most watched debate, but also the most substantive and interesting debate,” Trump boasted while claiming his official reason for pulling out was that he concluded he shouldn’t moderate a debate of a race he could possibly enter himself. But, it’s more likely that as the debate date got closer and Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum were the only elephants willing to join his freak show, Trump knew he had to cancel or risk embarrassment.
With failure inevitable, the writing was on the wall and Trump fired himself. Now let’s see if he still joins the race or just disappears into the shadows…
