Trump Interview Sends
Social Media Into Overdrive
Less than a week after his inauguration, Donald Trump sat down with ABC News’ David Muir on Wednesday night for the first televised Trump interview of his White House term. Soon after, social media was on fire with commentary.
Current Events
Since taking the oath of office, Trump has been a busy little bee — but in ways many say are for all the wrong reasons.
He spent his first 24 hours in power arguing over the crowd size of his inauguration, then sent his press secretary in front of the world’s media to boast that his crowd was the largest inaugural crowd of all time (it wasn’t). On day 2, he spoke to (what has since been rumored to be) a hired cheering section at the CIA while millions of women marched against him in cities around the world. Days 3, 4, and 5 included steps to weaken the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), present unverified claims that 3 to 5 million Americans denied him the popular vote due to voter fraud, as well as disjointed plans to proceed with constructing a wall along the US/Mexican border.
However, the Trump interview took a surprising turn when “The Donald” spoke about reinstating waterboarding and other torture techniques, as well as regrets that the US didn’t steal the oil from Iraq when it had the chance (an act that would have been an international crime). Oh, he also compared himself to (Bloody, Bloody) Andrew Jackson. Hmmm…
“That speech is a home run,” Trump boasted of his words at CIA headquarters. “That speech, if you look at FOX … they said it was one of the great speeches. They showed people applauding and screaming, and they were all CIA … I got a standing ovation.”
“All it is, is we’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico,” Trump said of his certainty that Mexico will (eventually) pay for the construction of his planned wall. “I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico.”
“Millions of people will be happy,” Trump said of the aftermath he expects once Obamacare is repealed. “Right now you have millions and millions and millions of people who will be unhappy.”
However, when Muir pressed Trump for specifics, he could provide none.
Current Events
Needless to say, Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of social media nearly crashed from the weight of those wanting/needing to respond to the Trump interview. Here’s but a sample:
