Trump Raid Uniting The Republican Party?
Is the Trump raid unexpectedly uniting the GOP?
Politics :
On Monday, the FBI raided Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort home in Florida in an attempt to seize documents Trump illegally took from The White House on his way out. However, the court-approved search of the home of a former commander-in-chief is so unprecedented that Republican lawmakers, voters, and even a few others are loudly complaining they believe the Trump raid went too far.
Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), each called to defund or abolish the FBI. Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) suggested it was an “overreach” — unless “there is a true national security threat.” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called for a “thorough and immediate explanation.”
GOP House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) threatened on Monday that if Republicans take back the House following the November midterm elections, they will immediately investigate the Department of Justice.
“I’ve seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization,” McCarthy said. “When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned.
“Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar,” McCarthy warned.
Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made her position known on Monday night.
“If you’re not yet appalled by the total abuse of power from Democrats in Washington, you’re not paying attention,” Sanders tweeted.
Interestingly, Twitter users were quick to remind Sanders of a 2016 post she wrote regarding Hillary Clinton: “When you’re attacking FBI agents because you’re under criminal investigation, you’re losing.”
With a growing number of Trump supporters taking to social media and openly discussing civil war, several Republicans fear the growing rage could lead to violence.
“Some GOP lawmakers said privately that they’re hearing panicked constituents suggest taking up arms after the Mar-a-Lago search. This could get ugly,” said one senior House Republican.
Even former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang went on social media to criticize the Trump raid.
“The FBI raid of Trump’s home has fired up his base of support in the GOP — and has seemingly increased the odds of his running in ‘24,” Yang tweeted. “Mishandling documents doesn’t seem like raid material. It does, however, seem like excellent campaign material for Trump,” he added.

On Monday, Eric Trump told the media his father has been “negotiating” with the US Justice Department to return the documents he took. However, his choice of words was actually a confirmation of a crime.
If Trump took documents from The White House illegally, they should be returned immediately. There is no need for “negotiation.” In fact, Eric’s words were the equivalent of a bank robber “negotiating” the return of a stolen ransom. Holding onto a stolen ransom does not negate the crime that was committed.
And therein lies the problem. Republicans are throwing a hissy fit over the FBI raiding Trump’s home — while ignoring the fact that Trump stole the items (and has, so far, refused to return them) in the first place.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland followed the law when he sent the FBI to Florida to conduct the Trump raid and regain the stolen items they’ve patiently requested since March of 2021. He seemingly did not care about the political ramifications of his actions and only wanted to uphold the law.
Will the Trump raid unite the GOP behind ‘The Donald’ and assist him in winning a 2nd term in 2024? Or, does Merrick Garland actually know what he’s doing and already have all his i’s dotted and t’s crossed in advance of all the noisy criticism?

The Trump raid is uniting the GOP.
I wanted to respond to this sooner but it has been such a busy morning for me!

Yes, most of the GOP on Capitol Hill will unite behind Trump, as well as most GOP members serving at state and local levels. However, rank and file Repub voters? I’m not so sure(?)
The FBI raid didn’t result in some huge groundswell of Trump voters protesting against it! I saw the motely crowd the media kept trying to play up all day when in actuality there were more of THEM (the media) than protestors
And I definitely don’t think Trump’s winning a 2nd term. But that won’t be just up to the GOP. That will be up the majority of American voters and the Electoral College!
