Donald Trump was kicked off of Facebook, his beloved Twitter, and other social sites for spreading thousands of lies and untruths during the 2020 presidential election. So, without a way to continue to lie to his millions of MAGA sycophants with the press of a button, Trump recently refused to be outdone and opted to launch his own Trump social media network entitled “TRUTH SOCIAL.”
(pause for laughter here)
Yes, Trump has chosen to establish the TRUTH social network where users can freely post “Truths” (similar to tweets) and repost “Re-Truths” (which are basically retweets). According to the Trump social network team, the site, which will go live in 2022, will fight against “the Big Tech companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.”
Or, in other words, TRUTH is the place where Trump will be allowed to lie, lie, lie without recourse and until he sinks into a coma of his own lies.
Not surprisingly, the new Trump social media network is already a failure.
Only a few hours after a test version of the social site was launched, pranksters went to work and hacked the site. According to The Washington Post, someone signed up for an account on the test website, took the username “donaldjtrump” and posted a photo of a defecating pig. If that wasn’t enough, another user signed up under the name “mikepence” without encountering any safeguards to prevent them from doing so.
Oh, but the Trump social media network issues don’t end there.
Because the website’s code runs on a mostly unmodified version of open-source software Mastodon, Trump’s platform is violating the Mastodon licensing rules since it requires developers to share any modification with the public and to give credit by linking to the original source code — neither of which Trump has done.
Mastodon founder Eugen Rochko has since given Trump 30 days to comply with the software’s terms of license before its access will be terminated. If Trump fails to comply, his platform will face legal action or be forced to rebuild the entire site from scratch.
“The license purposefully treats everyone equally (even people we don’t like or agree with), but they must operate under the same rules of the copyleft licenses that apply to everyone else,” Bradley Kuhn, policy fellow and hacker-in-residence at Software Freedom Conservancy, wrote in a blog post. “Today, we saw the Trump Media and Technology Group ignoring those important rules — which were designed for the social good.”

Donald Trump was banned from almost every major social media platform — including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit — because of his role in the January 6th Capitol Hill insurrection. Since then, he has been eager to return to social media after struggling to get his message out to his MAGA fanatics for most of this year.
Will the Trump social media network TRUTH be dissolved as a failure before it’s even launched? We can only hope!
