Truth Isn’t Truth: Giuliani’s Laughable Trump Defense

It’s the pathetic defense heard (and now mocked) around the world.  ‘Truth isn’t truth,’ former NYC mayor turned Trump lap-dog Rudy Giuliani said regarding “The Donald.”

Donald Trump continues to adamantly claim he did not collude with Russia during the 2016 US presidential election and that he is telling the truth. However, both he and attorney/friend/flunkie Rudy Guiliani continue to come up with 1001 reasons as to why Trump should not tell his version of the “truth” to Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

During an appearance Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Rudy took a stab at controlling the court of public opinion and argued reasons why Donald Trump should not talk to Mueller. Needless to say, his exchange did not go well.

GIULIANI:  Look, I am not going to be rushed into having him testify so that he gets trapped into perjury.  And when you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he’s going to tell the truth and he shouldn’t worry, well that’s so silly because it’s somebody’s version of the truth. Not the truth. He didn’t have a, a conversation —

CHUCK TODD:  Truth is truth. I don’t mean to go like —

RUDY GIULIANI:  No, it isn’t truth. Truth isn’t truth.

For an administration known for coining the phrase “alternative facts,” they can never take the position that “truth isn’t truth” and actually expect anyone to take them seriously. Additionally, for Trump to have warned the public by saying “Don’t believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news. … What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening,” neither “The Donald” or Giuliani is doing a great job of convincing the public that Trump is even remotely honest.

Wait… there’s more — and it gets worse:

GIULIANI:  Well, because the meeting was originally for the purpose of getting information about, about Clinton. The meeting turned into a meeting —

CHUCK TODD:  Which in itself it’s attempted collusion. I understand —

RUDY GIULIANI:  No it’s not.

CHUCK TODD:  You just said it. The meeting was intended to get dirt on Hillary Clinton from a criminal lawyer.

RUDY GIULIANI:  No, it wasn’t. No, no.

CHUCK TODD:  That was the intention of the meeting, you just said it.

RUDY GIULIANI:  That was the original intention of the meeting. It turned out to be a meeting about another subject and it was not pursued at all. And, of course, any meeting with regard to getting information on your opponent is something any candidate’s staff would take. If someone said, I have information about your opponent, you would take that meeting. If it happens to be a person with a Russian —

CHUCK TODD:  From the Russian government?

RUDY GIULIANI:  She didn’t represent the Russian government, she’s a private citizen. I don’t even know if they knew she was Russian at the time. All they had was her name.

Huh???

So, Giuliani wants us all to believe that Donald Trump is telling the truth and that ‘truth isn’t truth’ — at least when it doesn’t gel with what Trump wants us to know (or not know). Further, Giuliani admitted that the Trump Tower meeting was for the purpose of getting dirt on Hillary Clinton, but once it was called out for what it is (collusion) Rudy was quick to deny it.

The verbal calisthenics Giuliani flipped his way through in his awkward attempt to help Trump was on a world champion level. Regrettably, it wasn’t enough to convince almost anybody that either of them is being even remotely honest, or that ‘truth isn’t truth’ of course.

If Rudy’s “Meet The Press” performance is any indication of their version of the truth, it’s no wonder Donald Trump is scared shitless to talk to Robert Mueller!
