Tyre Nichols Photos; Biden SOTU Address
More gut-wrenching news has come out of Memphis after a series of Tyre Nichols photos were discovered being shared by police officers.
Top News Today :
On a day that was supposed to be about President Biden and his 2nd State of the Union address, the news quickly shifted from Washington to Tennessee. Beaten and bloodied Tyre Nichols photos were taken of him going in and out of consciousness while on the ground and propped against a police car.
But wait, there’s more.
The police officer who took the pics then shared the images via text message with various officers on the Memphis police force and at least one “female acquaintance” not affiliated with the MPD.
According to The New York Times, the revelation of photos came via internal affairs documents that the Memphis Police Department sent to the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. In the documents, it was revealed that former officer Demetrius Haley was responsible for taking the Tyre Nichols photos and then texting them to at least 5 people. Ironically, Haley is the one seen in the video pulling Nichols out of his vehicle and refusing to tell him why he was stopped and detained.
In light of this new information, additional police officers have since been fired and will face charges.
“We’re still adding names to the list,” Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said during a City Council hearing on Tuesday where city council members demanded accountability from police and emergency management officials.
Additionally, officials have recommended that the original officers be decertified, meaning they could no longer work as police officers anywhere in the state.
The existence of the photos completely violates Memphis Police Department policies designed to keep police information private and confidential. The insensitive pics also prove a pattern of mocking, abusive, and “blatantly unprofessional” behavior by the officers that also included shouting profanities at Mr. Nichols, laughing after the beating, and “bragging” about their involvement, the MPD said.
Tyre Nichols died from the effects of the animalistic police beatdown caught on tape. This new discovery of photos taken by former officer Haley on his personal cellphone for entertainment purposes has underscored the misconduct and total lack of respect for human life by police.
STATE OF THE UNION 2023
In other news, the 2023 State of the Union Address was delivered Tuesday by President Joe Biden.
The most visible aspect of the night was a GOP House Speaker (Rep. Kevin McCarthy) and a Republican-led House of Representatives. Combined with the addition of divisive MAGA and QAnon nutjobs recently elected to the US Congress, Speaker McCarthy had a difficult job keeping his raucous and rowdy caucus silent and respectful, as many stood and literally heckled the president multiple times during his remarks while McCarthy attempted to shush them.
Mr. Biden used his time to speak about plans to rebuild America’s infrastructure, a better-than-expected economy, an increase in job creation, and the successful fight against COVID.
Perhaps the highlights of the evening were the attendance of RowVaughn and Rodney Wells, the parents of Tyre Nichols, as well as Brandon Tsay, who bravely wrestled a gun away from the mass shooter who killed 11 people at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California. Paul Pelosi (husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi), who was savagely attacked inside his own home by a politically conservative crackpot, was also honored during the speech.
“Because the soul of the nation is strong, … the state of the union is strong,” Mr. Biden said to conclude his remarks.

When I first heard this breaking news last night, my immediate reaction was Anger!
There was a time I had mixed feelings about he death penalty. I’ve always believed there are criminals whose crimes rise to the level of being deserving of the death penalty. But I was also quite aware that Black and brown criminals are the ones disproportionally affected by sentencing (punishment) in America. While those white criminals who were also worthy of the death penalty *somehow* would not be sentenced to the same fate.
So I didn’t really support the death penalty…..until George Floyd was murdered by a killer cop, in living Color, in broad daylight, for ALL the world to see!
