U.S. Government Shuts Down Over GOP Tantrum
The U.S. Government is officially closed for business!

Current Events
Last night at midnight, the government ran out of funds to continue functioning and paying its bills, forcing a shutdown for the first time in 17 years.  Republican members of the House of Representatives refused to fund the government unless President Obama’s signature health care bill was defunded first. Since one issue has absolutely nothing to do with the other, Senate Democrats called it preposterous to hold America hostage over a temper tantrum, leaving a stalemate that went unresolved.

The fight against Obamacare, led by GOP Sen. Ted Cruz and various Tea Party members of congress, caused a very public rift within the Republican Party.  With congressional approval at an historic low of 10%, the old guard of the GOP considered it ludicrous to hold up funding of the government over spilled milk, recognizing how such a stunt will certainly come back to haunt them in the next election. Republican Rep. Peter King of New York staged an 11th hour vote on the House floor against members of his own party in an attempt to avoid a complete shutdown. His attempt failed, leaving bruised and vengeful feelings in the process.

Current Events
So as of today, the U.S. Government is closed and 800,000 federal workers are furloughed and without pay.  It could be hours, days, or even weeks before Republicans come to their senses, stop clouding issues and simply vote to continue funding the operation of the country.  Or, they could continue delivering a convoluted message to the American people — that it is not necessary to pay your bills if you disagree with an existing law.  Perhaps then people will stop paying their rent, because they don’t like the federal age of consent laws.  Maybe mortgages will freely go unpaid for anyone who doesn’t like the liquor laws of the land.  Someone may even be able to skip paying for groceries in the check out line, simply because they don’t like the law of having to drive 55MPH on most highways.

See how stupid this is?

OK WASSUP! continues its look into the Republican showdown over Obamacare that led to the government shutdown.

"You don’t get to extract a ransom for doing your job."
–President Obama, Sept. 30, 2013

The Repubs tried to bully the President, AGAIN. And this time he didn't blink. Good for him.

No one being of *Sound* mind and possessing even a smattering of intelligence would ever want to see Our country..Or government…go through this madness.

But as I expressed yesterday, the Repubs are, IMO, neither rational nor an intelligent people.

I consider them to be, first and foremost, Haters. As one NYTimes reader put it "fueled by racism, greed, and nostalgia for an America where White Supremacy and the status quo was unquestioned."

They long for that so-called *Golden Era* whereby America existed for them and ONLY them.

Suffice it to say that those days are long gone. They AIN'T coming back.

And they (Haters)…know it.

Repubs shut down the government and health care still went in affect today. Nothing gained but embarrassment. smh

As citizens we have a right to be upset. The National parks shut down today…The idiots that caused this entire mess should be the ones to go without pay – but noooo.

It's Thurs. Oct. 3rd and THIS quote is getting LOTS of attention because it tells you all you need to know about Repub intelligence and logic…..

“We’re not going to be disrespected,” conservative Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., [told the Washington Examiner]. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”

Re: "And I don’t know what that even is."

Dereck Thompson responds:
On the one hand, you could say it's just a throwaway line. Representatives say empty, tired things every day. But quotes have a life of their own, and this one is already being hailed online as the perfect embodiment of the GOP's bargaining position: Equal parts resolution and deep confusion. Forty-eight hours into the shutdown negotiations, one Republican stalwart's official position is that he no longer has any idea what he's negotiating for. […]
