Govt. Shutdown Ends; U.S. Reopens For Business
After 16 days of a total shutdown brought on by a Republican led hissy fit over the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), the U.S. government reopens for business today.

Unbiased Political News
Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid met with GOP leader Sen. Mitch McConnell and hammered out a deal to reopen the government and prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debt for the first time in history.

unbiased political news top news today current eventsThe Democratic-led senate easily passed the bipartisan deal, which needed approval from the Republican controlled House of Representatives before being sent to President Obama for his signature. In the 11th hour, it was unclear if GOP House Speaker John Boehner could garner enough support to pass the bill among the Tea Party rabble-rousers in his party, who have been hell bent on halting Obamacare at all costs. Finally, after some tense inner-fighting and after realizing theirs was a lost cause, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul and a host of Republican congressman finally gave in and allowed the U.S. to return to business as usual.

Unbiased Political News
After the Senate and House approved the bill, President Obama signed it into law in the wee hours of this morning, allowing furloughed government employees to return to work as early as today. However, the fight is not over yet.  The bill was only a temporary stopgap, with current spending levels authorized through January 15th and the debt ceiling extended only through February 7th.  Both parties will still have to go back to the drawing board to figure out a long term solution.

With their 16 day temper tantrum finally over, Republicans are now having to face the music — and it’s not pretty. Although they celebrated amongst themselves last night, the Republican scheme to shutdown the government did absolutely nothing to alter or cancel President Obama’s signature health care law whatsoever. If anything, it sent their approval rating plummeting to an embarrassing 21%. In fact, their scheme backfired so fiercely, political analysts are openly questioning if the GOP can even hold onto the House of Representatives in 2014. Stay tuned!

I'm glad the President stood firm and, together, with the Dems they were able to maintain a United front. I feel that that made all the difference in determining the outcome. However DJ is correct "the fight is not over yet." We're dealing with a pretty twisted lot. Men and women who aren't the least bit hesitant about wreaking all kinds of havoc, d*mn the polls and d*mn America too, quite frankly. Think about it: An extreme MINORITY right-wing faction of a major political party pushed this great nation (possibly THE WORLD) to the "brink of economic ruin"..!?! …backed by an equally (if not moreso) twisted *base* of support and a collective apparatus of funders and right-wing media that knows no limits. Thankfully they've picked the President's 2nd term to really *act a fool.* Their blind hatred and paranoia have caused them to go mad. And they've totally UNderestimated the… Read more »

….and on a related note THIS is what passes for *Reality* in Right-wing world:

"The GOP caved in the 11th hour. The American people were blaming the president for the entire thing. GOP house let us all down again. Ball was in Obama’s court and the GOP snatched defeat from the jaws of victory."

You cannot make this stuff up…smh. Dumb AND delusional.
