U.S. Spying On the UN?
Is the U.S. spying on the United Nations? At least one foreign publication says yes!

According to Germany’s Der Spiegel weekly, which claims to have inside information from former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, the U.S. National Security Agency has bugged and monitored the United Nations’ New York headquarters for at least a year, as well as other states and institutions.
Der Spiegel said that in the summer of 2012, NSA experts successfully cracked the code into the U.N. video conferencing system. U.S. intelligence agents also targeted the European Union and the U.N.’s Vienna-based nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“The data traffic gives us internal video teleconferences of the United Nations (yay!),” Der Spiegel quoted one document as saying, adding that in only 3 short weeks, the number of decoded communications rose from 12 to 458.

According to the documents, the NSA runs a bugging program in more than 80 embassies and consulates worldwide called “Special Collection Service”. “The surveillance is intensive and well organized and has little or nothing to do with warding off terrorists,” wrote Der Spiegel.
Surprised? Don’t be! Although the U.S. is likely embarrassed by this information becoming public, what Der Spiegel neglected to also report is the number of other countries who are likely doing the same thing — and more!
