Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, COVID is NOT over. Just ask Vice President Kamala Harris who tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Despite the best medical minds and facilities and the most up-to-date testing procedures at The White House, COVID still somehow made its way inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and infected the double vaccinated and boosted Vice President of the United States.
“Today, Vice President Harris tested positive for Covid-19 on rapid and PCR tests. She has exhibited no symptoms, will isolate and continue to work from the vice president’s residence,” vice presidential press secretary Kirsten Allen said in a statement.
“She has not been a close contact to the President or First Lady due to their respective recent travel schedules. She will follow CDC guidelines and the advice of her physicians. The Vice President will return to the White House when she tests negative,” Allen added.
Although Ms. Harris will almost assuredly not require hospitalization and her life is not in jeopardy, the news was still startling.
Yes, despite the fact that Americans are bored with COVID, COVID is not bored with us.
Passengers on planes are applauding and toasting champagne after a Donald Trump-appointed judge ruled that masks may no longer be required in the skies. States are ditching safety precautions as if COVID was as ancient as polio. Additionally, politicians are telling their constituents what they want to hear: that it’s safe to go back outside and live life like it’s 2019.
The only problem here is that COVID is NOT over — and the positive case of Kamala Harris is glaring proof.
In cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, workers returning to the office, taking public transportation, and going back to their old way of life are contracting COVID at an alarming rate.
In New York City, tourists in Times Square have returned in record numbers. On Broadway, actors, musicians, and crew members are tested for the coronavirus multiple times per week (with some shows requiring rapid testing for certain employees every single day). Still, COVID is taking down Broadway employees and postponing or even canceling performances.
Actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were forced to cancel several performances of their play PLAZA SUITE because both of them contracted COVID. Actor Lawrence Fishburn had to step away from his Broadway play AMERICAN BUFFALO after he tested positive. Understudies and alternate musicians and crew members are working overtime trying to make sure “The Show Must Go On” despite COVID secretly making its rounds on Broadway and in New York City once again.
The truth is, a judge can not mandate when a global pandemic is over. COVID will be over when IT decides it is over.
Too bad it’s still making its way onto airplanes, on Broadway stages, and even into The White House.
